lol, it feels so weird that I'm the one bringing you into dubstep and I'm some weebo punter from hillbillyass Georgia
To me, there's a few kinds of dubstep (and I'm really not that well-versed even if I dig for shit all the time, I don't really like the people ensconced in the subculture, I just play the tunes):
wonkstep -
the techier stuff, can sometimes have a good melody or structure, but for the most part is very bassline heavy with grating noises. It's good to mix in sometimes, and can be fun in small doses. Kinda like the anthems in trance.
tardstep -
balls to the wall noise and basslines. WONKY as fuck. It can be very cheesy and very try-hard sounding. It's as if burberry chavs tried Andrea Yates-ing Cascada and then grinded her body up with a shopvac. It tries to SOUND NOTHING LIKE HOUSE OR TECHNO BECAUSE THEY SUCK LOUDLOUDLOUD
deepstep -
more along the lines of what I like to play. Rather housey and techno-ey in some parts as far as melody, but variant structure and good, throbbing, dynamic basslines as opposed to the 4-on-the-floor fistfuck everyone's used to.
Burial -
see Burial albums
Every true dubstep aficionado probably thinks I'm a retard, and there's probably many subgenres that fagbags and cuntflaps like to quibble over, but I cba.
But Tethered is more wonkstep than tardstep, although it borders at times imo
Happy trails!
