also, blaming DJs for being too popular and playing popular misc is silly. its their job for fucks sake! just like politicians. creativity and money do not go together very well. should have been understood centuries ago

The mention of Sasha made me go back and listen to all the Emfire singles again. If only Tiesto/Armin/Ferry could dramatically break from what they do and aim for something brilliant like this. I suppose that's just a pipe dream.

these are my two fave djs at the moment, mainly cos they are doing something different and not sticking to the safe old sounds.

i saw ferry a while back and was disappointed, it was like watching a dog chasing his tail. he'd play one commercial track, one hard track and one more electro track, then start the cycle again. it was like he was keeping each third of the crowd happy, a third of the time.

i've seen armin use this technique over the years too.

He was actually doing it years before. Just check out his "Lost Treasures" series, or - more recent - "Nyana" and "ISOS4".
I don't know if that's a proper observation, but amongst all the superstar trance DJs he's usually the first to bring popular tracks from other EDM styles and then he's being copied by others .
