Actually, the feature that's drawing me to reaper and making me seriously consider switching is the midi editing. The fact that you can edit more than one track at the same time, and see how they relate at a glance in that piano roll would be a godsend for what I'm doing at the moment with more than one VST playing different parts of a phrase... I wish ableton had that feature....

Does reaper have a groove quantize at all, or just a basic shuffle/swing?

it starts to look like any daw now, a mix between cubase and sonar which i hated both. im loosing interest for this one.
also the constant update starts to bug me, cant they just finish something and let that be for a year, while making something new? its like theyr using all their time fixing issues instead of thinking creatively in new directions. we need leaders not followers, when it comes to daws, someone who dares to think new. the efex-matrix was intuitive, more of stuff like that.

You might want to try Sonar.

You'd rather a company wait to release their product updates in costly annual updates?

Have you read anything about Cockos or REAPER?

Yes and Ive used it abit, I really liked the whole idea to start with and it was extremely CPU efficient but I didnt manage to make any good stuff with the included instruments so I moved on. Seems to be aimed at recording vocals, guitars etc, REAL bands. Not soo much EDM as it totaly lacks all the essential drumsamples for edm etc. Any daw without a 909 OH is banned by me lol

And YES, id like a company to release actual completed software once in a while, fully tested without flaws, with alot of new features etc, instead of minor upgrades all the time only correcting faults. I find it extremely irritating the software world we live in now, its like nothing really is ever finished, Microsoft being the trend-setter of this. Another problem with this is that the developers always have pressure and creativity will be sat aside. And the programs end up as many small untested parts by diferent developers glued together in a haste.

Luckely this isnt a big problem in the music industry yet but Reaper is doing their part to ruin that too. IMO! Once you get a new version of Reason or Logic or Cubase or Sonar, they normally stay a few years. And they are heavely tested first. Which I like. Enough of this, Im not going into a big discussion about software-developer-politics.

Palm You know, most serious producers don't use the included instruments in their DAWs that much... they tend to sound a bit sub par and I personally like the portability, sound quality and individuality of third party plugins and samples. Reaper's good because it doesn't waste time on stuff third parties can do better.

I've tried sonar, didn't like it much. I'm still finding Reaper a bit slower than live for some stuff, but the fact that its so lightweight and some of the features are making it a serious contender IMO.
