Yeah, I was really surprised to hear a bit of dubstep when I saw that movie upon release... like the Spaceape track in particular.

PS great mix for the genre competition, opened my eyes to some good music.

Cheers. Good music it is, the djing not so much but I'm glad it served it's purpose

1980s was the decade of metal! What is up with people not knowing any music history?!

Well I mean nu/death doom(and the more poppey alternatives)/metalcore or something.

Evanescence/linkin park/atreyu don't sound much like 80s metal.

and I'd give you a bet that whatever this crappy girl and a guitar indie rock business that seems to be so popular atm sounds nothing like indie rock from the 80s. I mean I don't know much about indie rock, but I'm sure the stuff from the 80s sounds very different.

Didn't notice it, although I wasn't into dubstep at the time of viewing. The dubstep is track in the tv series skins however was very well placed, a nice chavvy track to suit the atmosphere.

Doom metal had it's first wave in the first half of the 80s. Death metal rose in the second half towards the end of the decade. "Nu-" doesn't belong in the same sentence as the other two.

Death doom has little to do with the black sabbath inspired doom metal of earlier, and regardless the 80s stuff will still sound a whole ton different. Just like early 90s trance sounds different to modern trance.

I take it you like metalcore then?

Anyway long story short: People will be like "ooh linkin park/atreyu/something" that's a bit 2000s! in 10 years time.

That is simply not true. I didn't realize you were talking about the actual style 'death doom' (or 'death/doom'), but ok, we can take two obvious examples, early LPs by Anathema and Paradise Lost. They sound pretty much like traditional doom with death growls added. And they're great too, especially Anathema.

Guitar-bass-drums-amplifier music is not subject to the same technological evolution, changes and trends as electronic music, so you don't necessarily get those differences over time as in the trance example.

Yes, if we're talking original metalcore (with math leanings) like: Converge, Botch, Cave In. Not these lame bands you hear on MTV which youngsters nowadays call 'metalcore'.

Certainly, i already think Linkin Park are dated as 'millennium thing'. Probably because a lot of nu-metal and rap metal had its peak in the late 90s and the early 00s, so it's easy to look at as a phenomenon of that period.

Oops, I was thinking of Scarface. Thanks for noticing. Point remains though; great soundtrack, not too dated.

It depends how dated the track is, some movie producers will wait until the time limit for the rights to the track have run our in order to use it so they have to pay little or no royalties so by that time of course the track is ages old and probably overplayed.

If you are talking about soundtracks or scores written by individuals for example say Giorgio Moroder or Hans Zimmer for example they music was built to go with the movie so they sound is just as dated as the movie by association. However the guys are mentioned are masters at their craft and usually have a timeless sound.
