ah your memory decieves you i believe. what was called "FX Channels" in FL back in the day were seperate from the Send channels. the fx channels were just like what you had to route a sound to in order to put insert fx on it. |
Well, I used FL for all of about a week when cubase was pissing me off once. It was fine and very fast to get lops going etc, but I just didn't like the whole pattern based thing and it seemed so basic - my brain prefers the straight forward linear sequencing in logic combined with studio like routing. It just makes sense like being in a real studio. Also, limited to 64 tracks? WTF?
I don't know why, FL just looks like a toy. The buttons, the knobs, the fake LCDs, - I know it's just aesthetics and they don't matter but logic and cubase just feel so much nicer to me.

Do you need more than 64 tracks? I think that's a LOT. Ive never even used more than 10.

rarely, but have I've got close to 80-90 before. The current track I'm working on is 30 odd and still got a few more elements to add.
Some of the studio projects I've worked on (PTHD) go in to the hundereds - one in particular needed 6 fully maxed out PTHD rigs and a bunch of grouping to get it to fit those. Track count got to above 500......

Can't think of anything else that has already been said but try some parallel compression and play around with the different verbs you've already tried and see if that does the trick.

A typical software-only track might be:
- 12 instruments
- 8 drum chains
- 5 effects (audio)
- 3 edits (stutters etc. - audio)
- 2 scratch edits (temporary)
- 8 intermediate groups
- 2 loopbacks
- 4 FX tracks (sends)
- 4 final groups
That's only 48, but if you start adding hardware effects, you could easily end up using another 20-30 tracks made up of output routing groups and inputs.
I'm also not counting the extra tracks that a lot of instruments create that you don't really need. Sometimes you can't configure it. The Virus Powercore forces 4 tracks, I think Absynth used to force 3, many samplers insist on using at least 4, and so on. Even if they're technically doing nothing, they still eat away at resources.
So yeah, it's possible to go above 64 tracks with software alone, and very very easy to do once you start adding hardware. |

kontakt and battery insist on at least 8, unless you can disable those somehow. |
I think we are talking about different things. Every synth Ive ever used has only used 1 Insert. Battery 3 uses one insert. FL Is limited to 64 Inserts. What are "Tracks"? My understanding in this case is track = song. But apparently I missed something. Would track correspond to say how many instances of z3ta I can run? Or how many generators you have? If that is the case, fl doesn't have a limit. I can check.
Edit: Well I have 378 channels and counting. That is 378 instances of 3osc. I will probably never need more or even half of this, but I imagine I can go to 999..or maby more :O

Also, In battery 3. How do you send different parts of the kit to different FX Inserts in FL's Mixer? |
You don't afaik. one VSTi into one mixer track.
