That's ridiculous - every difference in sound isn't a genre.

No, but that is where it starts. Whether a deviation in sound actually becomes a genre or not depends on whether the players of that deviation define themselves as such, and if the greater community accepts this definition (dubstep is a perfect example of this).

So far, this seems to be happening with skweee, it is just in the very early stages of the process. But hey, that didn't seem to stop the producers from acquiring a whole showcase for themselves at Sonar 2008.

Since it seems to be related to Dubstep how about making it into Skweee/Dubstep? That way DJs are still supposed to play whatever the typical Skweee sound is (I guess it sounds like the name, lol) but have some better known and established genre for orientation and when they can't find enough "pure Skweee" material.

skweee is in no way related to dubstep. it's a whole different permutation, the only trait it shares with dubstep is the notion of halfstep with some of the tracks. it's actually more kin to late 80's/early 90's new jack swing, funk & electro. dubstep operates at 135-145bpm where as skweee operates at 95-115. dubstep centers around the massive subbass & basslines where as skweee focuses more on synths & 303's used before it was turned into the acidbox.

I see. But you say that's it actually a known and differentiated genre and not just a weird name for a small sound variation that only 3 people worldwide have ever heard about?
Then I guess Skweee is in.

My only concern is that I think it would be hard for everyone else to acctually find a good enough number of skwee tunes. But I guess that would be part of the challenge.

As far as I know there are only 1-2 skwee-albums and not a whole lot of singles. I might be wrong ofc. The person who suggested skwee would have to confirm or unconfirm this obv.

it would be fun if it would be an option but i would not recommend it to be honest since it would require alot of thinking-out-of-the-box mixing and no offence, but for a minor challenge, i wouldn't think anyone could be too arsed to learn the ways.

So is anyone else down for ditching this genre? Seems like it's more trouble than it's worth, unless you get a lot of direction with regards to the artists and labels.
