to the guy who mentioned headroom. this way gives you more of it

I don't really want to be mixing at -20dB, I'll barely be able to hear anything accurately!

I prefer to have everything sitting how I want it before freezing tracks off. Results in less work afterwards, and you know for certain whether it fits or not in the first place

then you want to grab a external mixer. mackie do good 4-8 channel ones which that expensive. preamps on em are pretty good as well. give that extra gain level plus eq before recording

Virus uses +4dBu line level, maybe the JP-8080 uses more like a consumer level line output? Can you adjust the line level on your audio interface? I know on my M-Audio 1010 I can adjust the level of the inputs individually to between +4dBu (professional) or -10dBv (consumer).

You can use the Virus external inputs to boost the JP`s volume, and even better you can then set the virus external inputs (direct through) to go through the synth at any time, meaning you can use both at the same time!

This will reduce the quality though. I am sure the virus pre-amp is not going to be of a good quality. A decent stereo pre-amp will cost more than the virus synth itself.

Like I said above, adjusting the input volume in the M-Audio panel pans the signal pretty hard to the right, and the quality is significantly worse.

I'm running it through my Virus for now but a mixer is going to be the answer. Studiobob have you had any personal experience with the Mackie mixers? They seem to be pretty much exactly what I need from what I've read on the net-shops

There is the pros and cons right there. However the amount of things you can do too further shape the sounds using the virus filters and effects is cool as well. I have a Moog connected to the inputs and i can say that the delay is amazing.

Luke, I think in the Delta 44 control panel, you can change the input type/level between +4 and -10. Check either the Hardware or Input tabs for that option.

You can, but as I said before it pans the signal considerably to the right
