It helps to take frequent breaks, and switch to positions where the music isnt as loud.

It is true though, that if your ears are ringing its an indication of damage.

I find it pretty astounding to see that many of you, who can be perceived as music junkies (otherwise you wouldnt be posting online), can settle for cheap plugs that distort and mangle the sound to a point that I myself wouldn't enjoy it anymore

Maybe I'm just too much of a quality geek

In most places the sound is distorted and mangled to begin with, which is part of the reason why one needs to wear earplugs. Some concerts sound better than others, but they're not primarily 'fine listening' experiences. And don't get me started about clubbing.

I bought a $20 pair of Hearos from Guitar Center one year before WMC, and it was an excellent purchase... it only really cuts back the really high-pitched frequencies, but the music still sounds clear and not muffled at all (bass is still heavy as ever). I got a number of people (including some cute girls ) asking me about the earplugs as well, like where they could get a pair of their own.

earplugs are a must.

used to go out without em when i didnt know any better. did some damage to my ears. randomly when its completely silent at night ill hear beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for a good minute or two. itll happen atleast a couple times a month.

these days i do not go out without earplugs. i dont care if it looks a little stupid. i just love walking out of the club, taking them off, and wow no ringing!!!

fun fact: anything louder than a vacuum cleaner actually does damage to your ears.

The longest my ears have ever rang was until the next afternoon and the sound in that club happened to be very shitty so I guess I blamed it on that. It doesn't happen to me very often but when it does I find that when I go to sleep it is usually gone when I wake up.

I'm probably one of the unlucky ones but I've had constant chronic tinnitus since I first started going out at 16. It's gotten a lot worse over the years and and I use earplugs every show, every time. It can happen, and even if you don't get tinnitus you're still causing serious damage to your ears going unprotected into a nightclub no matter how good the sound quality is. My advice, wear the plugs - you'll thank me in 10 years.

Good to see this thread bumped again

To anyone else that uses earplugs in clubs. Have them in, and then at one point in the night, take them out for just a minute. Its scary just how loud it is and makes you realise. Guarantee you'll put them in again straight away

take a month off alcohol and loud music venues. drink lots of water and eat healthy food. the healthier your body is, the more effort it can put into dealing with the weakened hair cells in your ears and though doctors say the cells cannot repair past a certain point of damage i am a believer in the term never say never.

eg. if you go out and get lashed on 12 pints of stella your body will be repairing a wrecked liver and dehydrated brain instead bacause these get more priority than your ears. also from now on wear earplugs. otherwise your ears will get worse.

What are the ear plugs DJs an musicians use? I've seen them, and I know they are expensive as fuck, but I'd seriously considering investing in some.
