it's nothing, is what it is. in tech schools an associate's degree is a 2 year specialized degree in a certain field (such as welding, x-ray tech, auto mechanic, etc). it usually has to deal with skilled trades. in universities, an associate's is pretty much the first 60 credits of a 120 credit degree- so it's pretty much your GER classes you take your first two years.

It amazes me how transient the young population in America is.

In Australia it's really only started happening in the past decade, and the small percentage of people who do move only tend to do it once or twice. Over there it seems that large tracts of the population are regularly moving, and three or four times doesn't seem to be unusual.

It's what's awarded upon graduation from a community college here in the States.

Put it another way, imagine completing two years of a four year university, and getting a certificate for it.

Perhaps it's just useful for those who would like to stretch themselves beyond a high school diploma (for various reasons), but are unable/unwilling to commit to a four year university program in order to obtain a bachelors.

EDIT: Or, yeah, what Omega said.

They do have a lot more options for places to move to though, at least as far as cities go. Over here, there's prety much the 3 big ones on the east coast - There aren't too many folk who dream of moving west, even though Perth is supposedly pretty sweet. It's just that there's nothing else over there

I guess that I've just always associated the word degree with more academic programs.

I think your system is stupid, lol.

Yeah see? I think that's stupid. Just what the world needs to do: help out the stupid and unable to commit. That's probably why there's so many fucking morons where they don't belong in the world.

i mean, it looks good on a resume but doesn't mean jack shit, and hasn't helped me land any job other than welding ever (and the only reason i never have a problem getting hired for welding jobs is because i've been doing it for 6 years)

edit: actually, here's a picture of me doin' my thang. keepin' it gangsta nukka

Well, there certainly are some practical advantages involved here, depending upon your life circumstances.

"Associates Degree" is essentially the equivalent of being accredited for the completion of 'some college,' and certainly looks better on a resume than merely listing a high school diploma.

If you're unable to involve yourself in a four year program for the purposes of time, money, and travel, you can usually find a community college that has convenient class times, is cheap, and is close by, which will get you that (admittedly unsubstantial) 'associates advantage.'

If that is so, then an associates degree might very well be the thing for you at a certain time.

However, the associates degree also happens to be the degree of those that are of the 'ok, is this good enough?' mindset.

don't worry about it too much. if you put your mind into anything- you can do it.

i was born late into the year so i was supposed to be put in school the year later, but my dad put me in private school so i could start early. i struggled in school a lot bc i had difficulty speaking english with spanish at home.. but later on i became a straight a student and pretty much all my classes were AP in high school. i was in the varsity soccer team, was secretary treasurer, honor society, science club (stfu) and so i was always busy & stressed but it paid off bc i was able to push my limits and it feels good when you see how much you've accomplished.

i moved to the states in the summer before my senior year and hated it here so i graduated in 5 months & started college the next semester. in spring ill be a junior- everyone that is my age is barely half way with their first year.. so i feel pretty accomplished and it's a good feeling bc you know you're going somewhere when you set a lot of plans for yourself..

cor version: work hard and you can accomplish many things that pay off.

Yeah exactly. Fucking crock of shit. No wonder people these days have such a shitty fucking work ethic, when they're practically handed an "education". Total bullshit.

Ya thanks. I just decided one day after smoking a fat blunt that it was time to move on. But quitting is easier said than done after 4 years of daily morning-to-night smoke outs. Plus the E, acid, shrooms, scripts, coke I've done. It was just best I went into a detox program for drug addiction. I'v tried to quit before, but the anxiety was too much to bear. For the last 4 weeks, I have been going 3 times a week, for acupuncture, massage, and spinal adjustment. Add to that, some heavy duty supplements (90% metabolic absorption), and I feel better than ever! Much healthier, better mood, and I'm told, my demeanor exudes far more confidence than before ("You stand taller!"). My body is detoxified and I can definitely feel the difference. You don't know how deficient your body is in nutrients until you eat right and take a really high quality supplement(s). I was chronically depressed and that stuff brought me out of it. Plus, it's better than Viagra!!

No way I could go into finance and be all drugged out 24/7.

Yukii did break up with me because of my drug use, and I guess that's when I hit rock bottom and decided, I'm done with this shit. Best decision I ever made. I got my girl back!
