There aren't 75 000 people at the Trance Energy in the MainStage, that's just impossible.
It's easy to play pop music to entertain the crowd. Young talents can play easy stuffs to get some acknowledgement and be sure that the crowd will be pleased, but when you're a superstar deejay, your job should be more than playing commercial stuffs and all your big - old - success in a row! Tijs might be some kind of icon. His number two position in the Dj Mag should be used to support brand new artists and new sounds, not to follow the hype, playing electro commercial tracks and errr we will see how good or bad is his upcoming artist album.
What is the goal? Being played on international radios along Eric Prydz, Timbaland and Kid Cudi with his "Day And Night"? Becoming the new Oakenfold and be the first part of all Madonna concerts? Maybe Tijs has been very frustrated that his Die Another Day remix was rejected by Madonna and now he manages to take his revenge
Of course people will prefer an Empire Of The Sun remix or a King Of Leon remix instead of the new Jennifer Rene, because Tijs is playing for n00bs, for stupid people who never followed the EDM and went to a Tiλsto party because he is now played on MTV! Choose your party, where there won't be any stupid kiddos like this, and I guarantee the crowd will be better, more mature.
I saw an audience going completely mad just by few notes coming from Lethal Industry (Hardwell Remix), or because Tijs is playing a Tetris remix or The First Rebirth remix and those melodies are familiar to them. The problem is not trancers. They won't have any reactions no matter if Tijs is playing Ferry Corsten Shanti or something deeper like the techno track Dustin Zahn - Stranger To Stability (Len Faki Podium Mix). And that's the point for me.
I have no problem if Tijs is changing his music style but damn WHY those pop/rock remixes and commercial electro stuffs?! Fortunately, he is still playing few good stuffs in Club Life. Trancers at the end of the first hour and deeper tracks in the second hour. The Mixmag Special CD is pretty good and well-mixed, but this gig is awful! I was expecting something better, I though this gig was a highlight of the summer but nothing special. And the only trancers are his own productions or are dated.
I know he can do better! At the moment, I don't like him.
Browse your archives Chris and take a look at the EoL @ Hasselt in 2007, Element Earth. Good deep tracks and nice vibe all over it
EDIT : this is a really nice start Recent playlist from him.

5. Dustin Zahn Stranger To Stability (Len Faki Podium Mix)

+1 Tiesto has done some amazing mix CDs, dont know why he cant use some songs from some of them every now and then.
Also about Tiesto still playing Lethal industry. PVD still plays Bornslippy, Crush etc.
