Yeah, c'mon guys - it's starting to hurt!
Well, first let me say that I really appreciate all the comments. I've really never been interested in being a mod for a couple of reasons. First, my availability is pretty inconsistent - lately, things have been pretty slow at work, so I'm pretty active on the forums and keep it open pretty much all day (I sometimes wonder if people are sick of me yet!). But, any day now, I'll be slammed again with several projects and I might not even look at the forum for a week or two. Second, I admit that, as others have already stated, I am nice - possibly too nice to be a mod. I generally try to have a live-and-let-live attitude and would probably not be so quick to punish/ban people as the majority would like. I also have a tendency to be a fence-sitter. In other words, enforcement isn't my strength.
That said, I'd be willing to be one of several moderators - ya know, good cop/bad cop kind of thing. I think many of the people mentioned would be great including, but not limited to, Theran (although I don't think I've seen him around much lately), Existo22, DJ RANN, MrBoJiveJingles (I hope I spelled that right!), Stephen Wiley, RichieV, subtle, etc. And despite the recent chaos that Diginut was involved in (I've been in a few of those myself), he'd be a great mod. I'm sure there are plenty of others that I'm missing here...
Anyway, it seems like the logistics of getting swampster to allow new mods is a bigger hurdle than finding mods. |
Give the thread started the ability to moderate his own thread. That would save a lot of problems. But that would basicly mean redoing the entier forum software. Thread starters can already delete their own threads though. You could give the starter the ability to delete posts. And you don't have to give anyone global power, and have to deal with the risk involved. I am sure that is why swamper isn't too keen on giving more people global powers in the forum.
