If the thief does not know what he is looking for he is unlikely to waste time breaking into that room and will stick to easier things such as cameras ect. I also suggest that you rack as much equipment as possible as no one will spend the time unscrewing it . If you’re a dj a lockable coffin will go some way to prevent your setup being taken not least being the weight. Cdjs ect are a thieves favrioute What do you guys do for off site back ups? The thought of a fire scares the shit out of me. .

Dam man, that sucks. You got punished for the criminals actions. Here in Florida we can shoot to kill. I believe it's called the castle law. I've never had to kill anyone but I have severely injured a thief.

I live in a second floor apartment building, I wonder if there are any stats for USA that show the burglary rates for first floor and second floor apartments. We only have one way into the house [unless someone wants to put a ladder up to the window, which I doubt will happen if someone is trying to do a quick smash-n-grab] And our door is facing the main 4 lane street we live on, so maby that helps. I'm not too worried, my studio is all itb and I have backups. It would suck loosing my PC, but 7-8 hundred dollars and I can replace it.

Yeah I fully appreciate that my actions were wrong in the eyes of the law and that I would be punished however if he had not been in my home the incident would not have occurred.

I’m not really a loose cannon or a bully ect this is one of two violent incidents I have been involved in (The other one was some grown men thinking in would be fun to start kicking my defenceless cat in the street) and I’ve worked in some pretty confrontational jobs such as a ticket inspector on the railway.

I think what really made kick off was that fact that like all you other folk in this forum I have worked dam hard for my equipment and I will not let it be taken. Also the fact that I had my girlfriend with me at the time.

Your really lucky to have laws like that where you are. In the uk there was a genuine case a while back where a burglar successfully sued a home owner after falling through her skylight whilst robbing her home!!

Well I won’t go any further off topic but remember guys back up your work and stay villigant.

Also very basic advice but be VERY careful who you let know that you have a studio. Two of my friends have been robbed by so called freinds

yeah, every now and then i see on message boards stories of people getting robbed. i guess that means you have to watch who you work with too.

Id like to have a fireproof safe with a combination keypad or a key to keep my laptop and external disks in when im on vacation. i dont care much about the rest in this house but those things destroyd in a fire or stolen would fuck up alot for me. anyone know about safes like that?

I have a supposedly fire proof safe with a keypad. I keep all my back up drives in there - one big enough to fit a laptop in would be very expensive though. I got mine for AD$800. Not much compared to the value of the data on the drives. I am not sure exactly how fire proof it *really* is, but it has 'safe' within a safe. I hope it works and I hope I never find out!
