Do something that shows confidence without looking too flashy. Depending on the job, going too conservative can actually be a negative (boring, tentative). If you must go with a white shirt at least find a fairly fun tie.

I wear this with black dress shoes (minus the backpack!). In half a dozen interviews I scored offers in 100% of them...it has almost become my lucky interview outfit!

i don't think that outfit got you a job because a striped tie with a pinstriped suit imo looks bad.

as for me, well i've only been to two interviews in the last 3 years resulting to two jobs and wore two different suits. pant suits though, never worn a skirt suit to an interview but not sure why.

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

depends on what kind of job really. don't wear a suit if you're just applying for staff or something. just look smart, neat and unpretentious.

white shirt/really light shade of blue shirt
charcoal gray/gray pants
brown dress shoes
brown belt

you crazy, I wear em all the time.

You cannot go wrong with Navy suit, nice white shirt with red power tie!

So go to Macy's, the men's suit department always has a small sales rack. It usually only has a few suits, but if one fits, you got a $600+ suit for <$150. Then go to Kohl's, get teh shirt and tie...then you are set.

Oh and be prepared to answer the question of why you are a good fit for that position (ps...it has to do with how well you fit in with the company).

I love interviews

Always wear a navy or charcoal suit with a white or muted coloured shirt. If you want to inject some personality with the tie then go ahead but no cartoon animals, words, or vulcans.

As a hireing professional I can assure you that if you don't dress in such a manner that I believe the impressing me is your number one priority then you're not getting the job.

Always go conservative for an interview. Leave the accesories for when you've got the job. Dress smart but not fashion smart. Stick to neutral colours and like Moral said, you can inject a bit of colour with the tie but don't go overboard.

I forgot about this...my father used to work for a company and a local nutcase would apply for every job opening there. Each time he'd turn up in a different outfit or costume, they began to start calling him in just to see what he'd wear next.

Apparently he turned up once wearing a pirate costume riding a monkey bike!

No joke.

I am really picky about ties but the novelty ties like you mention make me want to vomit.

I'd go with dark color suit. (black, navy, grey)
and black shoes.

I got two suits right after college specifically for job interviews
(one I bought and the other my pops gifted me)

I dont' wear either of them now. Work attire is business casual. woot!
