Saw it earlier today and absolutely loved it. I was surprised how funny it was. I'm not familiar with the main star, but everytime he opened his mouth I was in stitches.
As for the Christopher was human debate, I don't think thats the case at all, and for a number of reasons....
1. They didn't make any mention of it at all in the movie.
2. Yes, there is mention of Chris being different. But in the very beginning of the movie they mention that most of the Aliens in District 9 were worker aliens, and not smart. Christopher was obviously the ship's captain, and much smarter than the others.
3. When Christopher and Wikus storm the MNU building, Christopher almost blows the mission because he is so overwhelmed with grief after seeing that his alien people were being used for experimentation.
4. When Christopher sees Wikus and his alien arm, he says something to the affect of "only the black fluid COULD have done that,' and concludes that Wikus was in possesion of the canaster at some point. He didn't know for sure, but made the natural assumption. If he had been changed himself, it would have been by the fluid, and he would have known without a doubt that that is what happened to Wikus.
5. Christopher says he has been developing the fluid for 20 years. If the aliens arrived 20 years prior to the events that we see, when would he have had time to change from human to alien AND learn how all their technology works + how to fly the ship?
Anyway, enough geeky rambling from me haha. I f-ing loved the movie.
