Anyone who would tear down a huge boon to the city's economy for no better reason than "It's an eyesore" is probably the same type of person who votes for douchebags like Adam Vaughn.

Tearing it down is a horrible idea, if anything, it should be extended to seamlessly connect with the DVP. And then it should be used as the boundary beyond which no tall-ass buildings should be built, so as to keep the lake shore useable, and not simply filled with expensive condo units.

What I don't get is how he doesn't care at all about how other areas of the city (ie even the suburbs) are doing. It's like in NYC when Brooklyn was against amalgamation with Manhatten, it happened and everyone was better for it. WTF, get w the times man.

It's also costly to maintain - the Gardiner really is a problem in many ways, but obviously simply tearing it down isn't the answer, it has to be replaced by something better. And Torontonians are understandably nervous about this concept because what usually happens in Toronto is that the tear-down happens fast enough but the rebuild gets aborted or delayed for 10 years, and of course there's no backup or contingency plan of any kind.

I understand it's costly to maintain. But the only reason that Vaughn and his sheep ever seem to declare publicly is "It's ugly". And they have no viable alternative to replace it once it's torn down. Offer a viable replacement, and THEN talk about getting rid of it.
