using presets doesnt mean crap. of course it is better to make our own sound, but if there is a preset and sounds great why dont i use them instead of making them from zero?

im still learning to make this kind of sound on my own.

No, but it can mean lazy, and very often lazy means crap.

[Edit: and asking other people to find the right presets for you is definitely lazy. If you don't ever have the time to scroll through the presets on your own synthesizers, then how do you have the time to produce at all?]

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Spot on.

Also, how are you going to learn if you don't start programming your own sounds?

Yeah, at first it can seem like a ball ache, but it is incredibly rewarding and you never know, you might come up with something nobody else has done before.

Just put the effort in.

It can mean a lot of things. It can mean their attention is focused on other aspects of production.

People who make their own sounds are also entirely able to create crap.

This is one of those discussions that seems to go round and round in circles ad infinitum. Both viewpoints are valid.

Good luck trying to convince someone who is primarily a composer to become a sound designer. Or someone who is fascinated by sound design/ synthesis to spend a lot more time on learning about composition.

Luckily we're all different, looking to make our musical statements in our own personal way!
