The acute toxicity of cannabis and the cannabinoids is very low in marijuana and the ratio of the amount of cannabinoids necessary to get a person intoxicated (i.e., stoned) relative to the amount necessary to kill them is 1 to 40,000. In other words, to overdose, you would have to consume 40,000 times as much marijuana as you needed to get stoned.
I'm guessing most people would just pass out after a bit.
I remember when I was 15 and I smoked weed for the first time I had the experience of "greening out". Apparently it's where you don't get enough oxygen to your brain and you pass out from it. All I remember was fading in and out of sleep and feeling sick as a dog for about 10 minutes. Yikes!
