I've witnessed quite a few accidents. Apart from ordinary hit'n'bump crashes:

  • When I was in high school, I saw a jeep drive through a red light in high speed and then be bashed by a bus. It spun quite a few times, and the passenger was seriously injured, blood gushing out of his neck and whatnot. The driver of our school van was really shocked, but he didn't let us look at that, and left the scene as soon as possible (there was a police car nearby, so help was on the way);

  • I saw a car wipe out and fall on the arm of one of the passengers as it flipped . This time around, surprisingly, I don't think anyone got seriously injured (we asked the police afterwards). The driver was speeding in a place he wasn't even supposed to be, but I'm glad no one was hurt by his reckless driving;

  • I saw a jeep (once again) fall in a hole as the tarmac collapsed in a road under repair. It was kind of funny, specially because no one got injured, and it was really unexpected;

  • I've never been in a serious accident myself, but my fiancée has already wiped out a car AND been hit by a speeding van in her not-that-long span of existence. I'm pretty sure she's immortal by now

They do; however, they're typically a steel bar welded to two steel posts that hang down from the bed... the welds are fine against passenger vehicles but this was a highway tractor pulling a fully loaded 53' dry-van (trailer) doing 113km (exact speed known from downloading the ECM).

I've seen a few but 2 really stick out in my mind:

1) My friend and I were driving from Orlando to Raleigh... we left at like 3:00 am. Around 5:30 am we were cruising through Jacksonville with basically no cars on the road. Just north of downtown, we came over a hump and saw a smashed up car in the middle of the highway, and a mangled deer off to the side covered in blood. I had to slam on the breaks and as I pulled up to the car the woman in the driver's seat was pinned against the wheel and she kept screaming, "MY BABY!!! OH MY GOD MY BABY!!! HELP!!!!" And, we didn't hear a baby crying so we were thinking the worst. I pulled over but before I could even get over to the woman the police were flying down the road to the scene... I asked them if we could help but they told us to leave after we explained that we didn't actually see the accident.

2) I had never been in a car accident in my life... was driving to Tampa from Orlando for work one morning. Getting close to Tampa, it opens up to 4 lanes of traffic on each side with a wide grass median in between. It was morning rush hour approaching. A car from the traffic heading in the opposite direction lost control and skidded across the median into oncoming traffic... right at me. It collided with the car in front of me. I jerked my wheel to the right to avoid plowing into that wreck and lost control. I flipped over a few times, and was sliding down the road on my roof... then a truck hit me from behind and made me spin like top while skidding upside down. I finally came to a stop on the shoulder of the road... some dude helped pull me out of the back window. My car (a Jeep Cherokee at the time) was totaled... and I only had a small cut on my elbow that didn't even need stitches; I got lucky. It was pretty fucking overhelming.

Just last month I saw a woman get hit by a motorcycle that swerved to get around a bus during rush hour. Obviously one of those guys that was trying to go fast to show off too - engine revved more than needed in that situation and then boom. Bus driver had waved to woman that it was ok to cross in front of the bus and the motorcycle never saw her coming.

yeah. first and last time I've been in a wreck. It was scary as hell. I had shards of glass in my eyes, ears, hair.... you name it. I can't believe I made it out alive. 6 cars total in the accident. They shut down I-4 for a few hours. I rode to the hospital anyway just to get checked out. My best friend's dad picked me up and we went to get some Mexican food...lol. I just kept sitting there thinking, man I should be fucking dead right now.

shit... that bus driver must have felt pretty guilty after waving the woman to go ahead and then seeing her get hit by the motorcycle. I know I would.

Yeah, probably, though what the motorcycle did was definitely illegal. It basically squeezed in between the bus and a row of parked cars in order to get around the bus. It really was a result of an impatient driver showing off on a bike.

Not sure what happened to the lady, but she wasn't moving when the ambulance arrived. I didn't stay around too long, but I kind of assumed the worst.

A friend of mine was riding with her friend up to Seattle one night for a concert and just south of down town there is this really retarded series of exits and entrances.

There is the standard right hand side entrance, and then about a quarter mile from that is a left hand exit that goes up on this viaduct.

They are speeding along nicely at 70mph (10 over so not that bad) when this dumb bint decides to enter in front of them on right entrance, she cuts across the 4 lanes of traffic thats going 60-70mph only doing 40mph.

Well the timing was perfect that when she got to the furthest right lane my friends friends car just saw her and barely had time to slow down, they slammed into the back of her doing about 60 or something and they spun out and hit a series of water barrels and the other lady slammed head on into a jersey barrier.

My friend fucked her neck up, her friend was fine, the other lady was OK too, but god damn, what a stupid bitch.
