Or can't afford to pay the $1700 (tow plus 30 days storage for unlicensed driver in California) needed to get an $8000 car out. My gf's bf got a car at auction for $2000 that has a private party "good" kbb value of $8700.

But yeah, I doubt that's typical or usual.

Personally, I'd stay away from public auctions for reasons outlined above as well as hearing horror stories of buying lemons. I prefer dealer auctions, they disclose all information about the vehicle and inspect the vehicle. But once again, when you only have 5K to spend I wouldn't even be thinking about an auction.

Just get something economical and reliable ie toyota/honda - basically follow Nerologic's advice.

All these suggestions to go Toyota/Honda...

Now, I'm a Toyota fanboy myself, but...

Haven't the recent Ford models been working out well too? Or is the $5000 mark still gonna get you a model back when Ford was just as useless as GM?

Toyota. Unbreakable cars. I own a 97 Corolla with 300 000 km and still driving like a charm. All my family drives corolla and you don't get to go to the repair shop often.

Maybe not stay away from the newer v6 acuras, but the v6 acuras (or most luxury v6's in that price range) will be ran down and with miles. And those import v6's dont like high mileage. The inline 4 and inline 6's are workhorses but when it comes to that v6 something major is bound to happen. V6's aren't as stout as a 4yl or a 6cyl, Shit i think most v8's are more reliable lol

From blowing a head-gasket because the water pump isnt working well, to shooting a rod out the block because the motor burns so much oil its low.

If you can find the v6 slightly under the 100k range you are fine, thing is for 5k they will be a bit over 100k.

To back up my claim just do this. Go to any junkyard and count the luxury v6's and its years made. Then count the econo buckets and its year made. Also only count the ones that are NOT crashed or fire damage. I bet most of the v6's in there will be mid-late 90's and a few in the 2k range. The 4cyls will be in the early 90's late 80's and a few maybe late 90's. I am a junkyard dog, so i see this all the time

Heh, I have a V6 Acura which I purchased partly due to Honda making engines that will outscore cockroaches in terms of survival . Granted, I based my opinion on 4 cylinder cars (and my friends 15 year old V6 accord that hasn't been serviced in 4 years and still runs great). Hopefully your observations are inaccurate and do not apply in my case

I have $2900 from an insurance settlement. I want to buy a car a used car that is $5000. If I go into a dealership and offer $2900 down will they sell me the car? What is it, like less than $3000 I would owe?

I have terrible credit but I do have a job now and I can pay it off in less than a year.

Help.

Your credit is the least of your worries if you can't tell exactly how much is $5,000 minus $2,900.

From that moment on, I could feel the magik flowing through my veins while listening to the music that Tijs carefully samples and produces. His creativity allows him to develop the concepts of songs that bring life and energy to people around the world.
