Besides, as Connerman mentioned the Chicago bid doesn't really have much popular support, and the US has hosted the Olympics 4 times during my lifetime (and I'm not that old):

• 1984 - Los Angeles
  
• 1996 - Atlanta
  
• 2002 - Salt Lake City
  

Not to mention the fact in 1980 the Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid (couldn't they pick a more obscure city?) and there's also Vancouver in a few years (yeah, I know it's Canada but, come on, it's not really that far from the border ).

Lake Placid was recognized as the center of winter recreation in the US before the Winter Olympics were ever hosted there.
