So how many TA's, rather than griping on the board (which I'm sure City Council reads daily), are actually taking the time to email the mayor, their councillor and Adam Giambrone to express their displeasure with this situation?

Takes all of 5 minutes.

I'm not a citizen of Toronto. But I see Mayor Hazel from time to time and am quite vocal about pleased I am working and living in her city. If I lived in Toronto you can bet I would be saying something. I have emailed my MPP many times in opposition to the HST and Health Premium.

EDIT

I think talking about issues on these forums is very positive. Sometimes you learn about issues not covered in detail or at all on the news. It gives the readers an opporitunity to really understand and appriciate the different views of different people. It may seem like bitching and griping, and many times it is, but it is
1. a way to express your opinion,

2. listen to the opinions of others, and

3. stay up to date with issues that dont have biased editorials attached to their stories. The initial post in a thread may be biased, but through discussion, other points of views receive equal attention, which the media does not permit.

I kinda feel that emailing in my complaints fall on deaf ears. Excuse my ignorance, but is their any proof that public outcry of emails has ever stopped the government from raising prices/taxes?

I feel we're just pawns in their game.

yes and no

a single email does not make a difference. But collectively the public can make a difference. If that email is one of thousands then it makes an impact. Especially at election time. Sadly in Canada, not enough people care to vote anymore and politicians are exploiting that.

Only people with specific interests tend to vote. Seniors and union workers to be exact. And this is why although the general public bitches about it, we keep getting screwed. Why would these guys change their game when they know they are going to get re-elected anyways? Look at Miller and Mcguinty and the damage they did before they got re-elected.

If the electorate were informed and came out in force i think youd see politicians clean up their act rather quickly. And a change may be coming just like when everyone clued in after Bob Rae's NDP reign and voted in Harris. And to think, Mcguinty now makes Rae look like a financial genius!!

Tough times are ahead for toronto and ontario. Vote left and it will mean more taxes, more debt and possible bankruptcy. Vote right and it will mean service cuts (which is probably the only proper thing to do at the moment). But you can thank years of overspending by mostly left wing governments for leaving the mess that the next government will have to deal with.

One more thing..

Canadians have to stop being so selfish.

Quit voting for politicians that dangle carrots in your faces. When they promise this service and that service but cant explain how it will be paid for, this should concern you.

An honest politician would run on the following statement at this point:

"tough times are ahead and we are all going to have to do our part. unfortunately we cannot live beyond our means any longer and we will all have to make sacrifices and make do with fewer public services until we can get our finances under control. If we don't do it voluntarily today under our own premise, we will be forced to in the future at the hands of others"

This is a politician id vote for. Sadly since people are too selfish, this speech would be his/her kiss of death.

Why are you against this jayx1?

You seem usualy on the right fiscally.

Making people pay for the services they get is something you should applaud.

Don't forget, a TTC fare is not a tax, it's something you pay for a service in return.

$126 for the non-plan Metropass means you'd have to take the TTC twice daily for 6 times a week in order to break even on cost.

Except when its a public run monopoly.

A right wing approach would be to let private companies compete for your business. Argentina has this approach and the service was cheap (even for them), reliable and frequent.

Now what was that about $1 billion on street cars we dont need???

Cue communist street car pic: LOL

doesn't matter what the new price is - the only way to actually SAVE using the pass is to either get it discounted or share it... as much as it's convinient to just have the card, tokens ARE cheaper :\

I have been using tokens this whole year. I only need the ttc to and from work 5 days a week. And so tokens are cheaper.

I agree. fortunately i get a volume pricing plan through my employer which makes it worthwhile otherwise I would just buy tokens or a car.
