I can think of nothing worse than being in contact with others 24/7. Yuk.

I am going to buy a netbook to go backpacking next year. I want something light but with good battery life (you have to compromise between the two, I know). I was thinking of the Asus Eee 1000HE. Thoughts?

I am with you. I hate the iPhone with a passion. It is the epitome of gash. I can only say 2 things that have come that are good for the industry as a result of the iPhone. The IDs have gotten MUCH better, which has also created competition again, and it has gotten MS off their ass to seriously (or so they say, the jury is still out on that one till Windows Phone 7 comes out) revamp their mobile OS. By effect, they have gotten Google into the game to create an open platform.

A good buy, to be honest. That or the MSI Wind. The only disadvantage, it uses an HDD which eats up LOTS of battery. So, try to stick to non-volatile based stuff if you can.

Well I'd consider it if I could have both that and windows loading at the same time, and almost an alt tab function in between. So I could be on the net before windows loads up.

But then again, what I'd really want is just a very innovative plugin for windows that lets you browse the net and gradually loads the rest of the functionality.

I mean cos honestly, is it really gonna load 10,000 display drivers in 10 seconds? How the fuck am I gonna watch youtube with no sound and no video?

It is a Linux back-end, so it isn't any different in that aspect than an other Linux OS.

Dude, you're not going to get Microsoft software on Android or iPhone and Microsoft software is what drives business. Sure, Windows smart phones might be shit, but Microsoft have a complete monopoly over the business smart phone segment just because of application selection. This is not going to change either. iPhones obviously monopolise the hipster segment and you can be guaranteed none of such individuals would buy an Android. Thus:

1. Windows: Business
2. iPhones: Trendy wankers
3. Android: ??? Geeks...

You're confusing technical merit with actual value. Most consumers don't care about operating systems, they care about applications and aesthetics.
