I bought a used Edu version of Cubase Studio 4 for $125 this year.

It has virtually every capability the full version has and I can upgrade to 5 when I feel like it for peanuts.

Why not by it used? It's cheaper!

And I also have FL8 on my HDD that I never use. If I could sell it I would in a heartbeat.

Isnt it so that you cannot upgrade the edu version ?

You can upgrade as far as I know. You're just not allowed to use Cubase in any commercial kind of way with the educational license.

As far as i know, you cannot upgrade the edu version, only updates are available. So if u get an edu version you are stuck with it.

Edu version is identical to the normal version in every way once sold on. It's the original price that's different, nothing else.

I played around with Samplitude 11. It has a similar feel to it as Sonar, but A LOT easier to use.

Check out the Magix website and download the demo and try it out. I would recommond that more than I would Sonar. But I guess the price is what might turn some people off, as Magix Samplitude 11 tends to be somewhat expensive.

Reason 3 licenses are worth something on the second hand market now as you can get Record and Reason 4 bundle for 129 with it (or was it 99?).

If Sonar has stability issues than why is Sonar is hugely popular outside the EDM world? Your basically implying that EDM guys are the only ones that care about stability with this statement which I don't believe is true.

I have had Sonar for a couple years now and love it. I like the GUI much more than Live, of FL studio or Reason. It can be customized like crazy and as a DAW is loaded with features. I really don't have stability issues and find it very intuitive to use.

I think it comes down to being familiar with something. When you are very familiar with one DAW than other DAWs differences in GUI and navigation are going to seem a little foreign to you and we tend to prefer things that we are familiar with
