I think this may very well be the first thing you have ever said that I agree with.
I think there is so much stress and hustle and bustle during this time of year that people really need to step back and realize not what they want but what be thankful for what they already have.
At Christmas I always end up giving much more than what I receive, if I were to compare gifts dollar for dollar, but seeing the happiness on ppls faces when they open up thier presents is much more exciting then receiving presents.
Last year my Grandmother was extremely ill during Christmas (she's 88) and the year before that I had pnemonia while my father was at Sunnybrook with 3rd degree burns, he had to have skin grafting completed on Christmas Eve. Because he was so suseptible to infection I wasn't allowed to visit him during Christmas which tore me apart. I used to always be excited about receiving the gifts I asked for, not it doesn't really make a difference. The last 2 seasons have really changed my outlook on Christmas.
So to make a long story short, for me, my ideal Christmas is simply being with the people I love.....plain and simple.
