which technically allows the artist to got to court for damage claims and to break up the contract becausw the label is breaching the terms.

I'm seriously considering doing so with a couple of labels. I hate that type of amateurist crap. Especially when some of them are really big fishes...

man, i feel pretty uneasy dealing with labels, they can cheat you so easily. i would like to start my own label after about 10 releases, so i can manage this and safety it but, i still dont know not really looking into it for a bit.

So it depends on your label and music, music that DJs find useful will sell, music that DJs and listeners find useful will sell even more.

If you want success, spend some time on your craft and find Labels that have a following, DJs, Listeners, Media, Radio, Reviews, Blogs, Connections etc.

#1 Question you should be asking is...

Are all sales being accurately reported?

so then you've made a lot of money?

THAT, after all, was the point of the entire thread.

I wonder what big fishes like Armin, PvD or Tiesticle make. Gotta be pretty penny. Vandit, Amada, black hole, etc are big labels alone. Throw in huge events around the world week in/out, remixes, soundtrack work, gaming, commercials and whoring out yourself to eager corporations with big checkbooks - sounds like a not a bad way to make a living.

So Lolo - with all your tallent, why aren't you hopping the globe, hugging hot babes, staying in five star hotels? I cannot believe it's for a lack of tallent or ambition?

not in this case. I would certainly divulge this info if I had it available. It does serve as an eye opener - some people think they make a track and become next Armin. I'm glad to know that I can make a decent coin and don't have to worry about career choice in music. The thing is the model is broken and until we figure out what to do about it - producing music is not an option if you wanna eat.

Quick show of hands - how many think Tiesto would be as popular in few years time as he is today if he started not 12 years ago but now? I think he'd stillbe spinning at his local pub and watching olympics on telly, not spinning his shitty tracks to a world wide audience. Timing. Timing.
