There is no noun in your question. But to answer your vague question,
a mix format is easier to have a critical opinion on, than a album or EP. In a mix there is less artistic context to deconstruct, and less fully controlled artistic expression to digest...in comparison to an album. The work is shared between the DJ and the Producers/Artists. Agreed? Which makes a mix more of technical excercise than something like an album which more of an artistic excercise. A proper review of an album requires the ability of the listener to abstract the context. With a mix you really dont have to, you either enjoy the journey or you dont. And there is usually little left by the DJ, to deconstruct by the listener, again in comparison to an Album or EP. This makes being critical of a mix reasonably easier.

Criticism is fine if it balances a discussion, and a balanced discussion is always useful, because it leads to better understanding. Constructive criticism is also good if it points out a reoccuring problem or pattern in a system.

Hella constructive'.

And you are right, everything is ok if you feel it is, which is why your explanations on what is acceptable to criticize, think about, or dislike don't mean jack shit. Just wanted to point that out.

I dont even get what you are griping about.

What I said is not purely criticism, is it? Its an observation based on plenty of examples. I mean are you saying the last 5-6 major mix CD's that have been put out have been any good? Maybe if you smoke shit or drop some shit, maybe they would be more enjoyable, but in that case almost anything is enjoyable.

Most of them have been forgettable for me, and there are many reasons for that. Those reasons being, they've been mixed by DJs who might not done the time, have not developed their selecting skills, have not actually used a wide range of music to license. The Mix CD format has turned into buddy stroking festival. How is this criticism? Its an observation, with plenty of evidence to back it. At least find some criticism lol. And why are you hung up on the whole criticism thing anyway?

And if it makes you happy that my explanations dont mean jack shit, well I guess they dont mean jack shit lol.

I actually really like this comp. One of my favs in recent months. Maybe its cause lately Ive been let down by mix cds and my expectations were lowered, but this is the best one Ive listened to for some time.

Wronggg (gong sound). Clovis obviously believes mix CDS lately have been AWESOME. Producers turned DJs are AWESOME. My observation backed by examples and good context is so off, and purely criticism.

The reason Kismet is fine with criticising DJs but not producers is obvious: he's a producer, but he can't DJ.
