Oh, no doubt about it.

I know that I like and play music that to other people might seem weird or boring, or shit. However, it's a product of listening to a lot of dance music over the years and growing out of what's popular and finding out that there is so much more to what the Armins, the Tiestos, and the Schulzes are playing. It's pretty much the same reason why I can appreciate Pink Floyd now and I didn't when I was 12.

I find it ridiculously funny that there are DJs who entered the "scene" in the same way that I did, which was through the most popular, empty, childish type of dance music and instead of branching out they choose to stay immersed in the same bullshit forever. I can understand why people like Tiesto, Armin, and Paul van Dyk do it, I can think of millions of reasons actually.

But the locals?

In some markets you can branch out and do what you want, but in others you can't. I have my own style to work with but unfortunately where I reside you don't always get that option. Long Beach, CA is the Hip Hop capital of the world. Trying to find a club around me that plays Trance, Electro, whatever is a litlle harder to come by. Rarely do you hear our type of music, unless you travel up to LA. Even LA is still Hip Hop heavy. The Armin's and Tiesto ways of doing things is what selling. At least in America. Remember Trance is pretty new here.

Think of this, When Tiesto first hit the scene, what was his style, or what was he writing? Now look at his latest album. Sure many think he's a sell out, but he is trying to venture out. The Kaliedoscope album is huge America. I can't even count how many requests I get in a night, for Escape Me and I Will Be Here. If these are the kind of songs that put butts on the dancefloor, you have to go with it. If a club owner asked me to spin a 3 hour set of nothing but Tiesto tunes, well that's what I have to do.

Trust me, I get what your saying, and I get what others are saying. Sometimes though, you can't get your way.

You are not getting what I'm saying Austin, I'm not criticizing his taste per se, just his unwillingness to go further.
