Ok. I went back and got the HS80's and they do sound good in here. Different, but good. After reading a bunch of reviews on the KRK VXT8's I think I liked the sound because I was used to the 6s but also because they apparently do sound like a high end stereo speaker. Im glad I ended up with the Yamaha's, thanks for everyone's opinions!

With the money I saved I got a pair of AKG 702's as well, now I can mix while my pregnant girl sleeps. I'm sure this will come in handy when the baby is hear too!!!

Congrats on the baby (to be) Cam!

The HS80's don't sound "pleasing" in the way a hifi speaker does and that's my problem with the KRK range, as well as a general lack of clarity across the whole spectrum. It's weired, when A/B against the HS80s the KRK's just seem less detailed to me. Just wait until you have gotten used to the HS80's, they're really the ones to beat at the moment.

You picked great headphones too.

@Eddie - you're welcome mate

Indeed Cam congrats dude.

Interesting read this and the related threads. Got me thinking of what I could get when I have some cash. and on headphones also.

I see those HS80 in many studio's, and not sure if it the same ones but I recognise that white part on them which I see in many studio's over many years. If it is indeed those, that many people cant be wrong.

Good call on the HS80s. I've had a pair for a couple of years now, and love them.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty pumped about the HS80's now too (and the baby that's on the way!).

I actually just started a three month PointBlank course so it's a perfect time to learn these new monitors as well.

Cheers again for all the advice!

I recently upgraded to hr824mkII monitors but im so glad i had some room treatment beforehand cos these things put out quite a bit more low end than the 624s...

What do you guys think about those software/mic kits they sell that helps you fine tune the sound in your studio? I think some of them apply a master eq to fix certian sound issues or something?

Anyone tried these before?

most of those are gimmicks IMO, just learn your monitors and then learn to trust your ears in terms of mix translation. Everything else if really needed could be done elsewhere. (ie if decent label will sign your track they will likely do a bit of their own additional mixing and mastering).

If you really want to get rid of basic issues spend a few bills on treating first reflection points of monitors, and maybe placing some behind speakers as well.
