Italy does have young striking talent. Rossi and balotelli for example are two excellent younger players which lippi refused to include in his squad..

The strikers he took were never good enough to compete at this level. Gilardino never even had 1 shot in the two games he played. That says it all.

You said he "shouldn't even be playing on the national squad" and I'm arguing that he still is the driving force behind it. Finesse or no finesse, he still has no substitute.

There's noone in entire Italy?
Comeee on noww, Lippi choosen the old farts for this WC. The defence was solid but the midfield lacked speed or ambition.
If what you say is true then Italy will have to wait a couple years for some talent to emerge.

LOL...do you even follow Italian football?

As ridiculous or unbelievable as it sounds, there still is nobody that can grab the reins of the Italian midfield with the same class as Andrea Pirlo. The problem is that there are way too many foreigners playing in Italian clubs at the expense of giving home-grown talent the back seat.

Take Inter, for example. They won the European Treble this year with a squad that only has 6 Italians, none of which were on the starting lineup. And of those 6 players, 3 are reserve goalkeepers.

In such an environment, it's pretty difficult for new home-grown talent to arise. And the ones that do manage to make it, like Montolivo, are still not up to the challenge.
