i totally see eye to eye with rizo, i went thru the same phase where i partied non stop in SF for years and then hit my mid/late 20s and it all just got to be bullshit for the most part. either a lame crowd, shitty sound, jackass security, etc. and this is not just 1015, hell i'd say more so at RS and other clubs. then i started hanging with friends that had mansions and just threw our own private parties and do whatever we want, when we want, that's what kinda took me away from the club scene. i still go out from time to time though when i think it's gonna be a good night, like j00f at 1015 or like tonight with burridge at 1015. it's always great to see all my old friends too. i never understood why it was so hard to get the sound right at a club either. maybe you're right Dave, it may take fancy decor to bring people in these days. personally i don't care if it's a dark dungeon with a few lights, as long as the sound is kicking and there's an awesome crowd i'm down, although i realize i'm probably the minority. the water wall thing didn't work because it was so dark it grew algae and had to be turned off. oh well hopefully i'll see some of you guys tonight and it will be a good time!

for me it's all it takes as well. but yeah, you have to do more to attract a more mainstream crowd. And without that crowd, a club will never survive. Just how shit is, unfortauntely, It's not the dot-com era any more when everyone made tons of money and just blew it all on partying.

so funny to me how so many of you are so ungrateful to have edm clubs in sf.

wake the fuck up!

dont you realize most venues can go hip hop/commercial any day & make much more $$ off those crap sounds then be loyal to you the customer & financially struggle by supporting edm?

wake up...

& to answer the threads question....IMO one club doesnt get more love over the other. it is politics that rule edm club world. everywhere in the world for that matter not just sf. but most who express there jaded opinions are to jaded to even comprehend what i am talking about.

thanks much for the respect shout dave. if these jaded haters really understood wtf was really going on they might actually know wtf there talking about.

EDIT/Add on : There is no doubt main room @ 1015 needs any kind of rehaul. I do not deny this. But i will say this. Without owner (any venue anywhere in the world) doesnt see strong support from an audience then there will be no need for him/her to make a "requested" rehaul. Not showing up to the club does not help your wants for rehaul.

Thank you for the shout Rizo. Thats always been the goal. Family atomosphere rather then just a club night.

Don't know about Ruby Sky (since I have never been there), but I loved 1015

Nice kick of bass today for Lee at 1015! At least in the front of the booth. Also the new laser programming and lighting was great! Though lighting still really comes down to preference it seems but the laser was bouncing off the disco ball was def a plus! Overall great night! Even bumped into a few people I havent seen inawhile and new faces who noticed my DEMF 2010 tee that a friend brought back for me. I'm glad they made it out and the venue didn't stop them like others in this thread.

DaveT and Taj:

Both excellent points!

Having not been to 1015 since the days of Nikita, Release, Spundae and (omg - the drum & bassment),circa 2000, and if I'm not mistaken right about the time of the first big remodel (with the balconies and live feed video screens of the DJ booth) I can say that I haven't been to a club since that has blown me away in terms of technical aspects, lighting, etc. like 1015 did. Best I've ever seen.

I always equated 1015 to a pure dancer's club and Ruby to the more upscale.

Both IMO are outstanding venues for what they represent and I am grateful that SF has such club competition even aside from the 2 "bigs." It's healthy and brings a wider variety of talent through the area.

Im in Sac. and we have limited options...and no "true club" that plays EDM on the weekends. Sac is a Thurs EDM town. Many of us can't get out on Thursday nights...and that sucks!

Be thankful those of you that live in areas were you have weekend EDM club competetion. You don't know how good you really have it.

1015 is more like a raver place/afterhours vs RS who is a true upscale club. I came to RS on Jan 2010 and made my rookie mistake by bringing my raver lights with me lol, but in 1015 I truly feel like home when everyone was doing lightshow and stuff.

Taj, people on here mean no disrespect. We all respect what 1015 means to the scene and how lucky we are. All we are doing is pointing out that given we have the two options, Ruby for many is the pick only because of appeal at this point. Since both are now getting stellar events, in the end it comes down to where people find the vibe to be better. As mentioned, in my opinion, with the way the mainroom is setup, when the place is half full, i prefer a ruby skye half full. When Ruby skye is packed and 1015 is packed, i prefer ruby skye. Why? Just cause of the points listed. If the mainroom were to really get an upgrade, not just some spinning decorations and a few extra lights, then it would make all the difference. Its just the main room that is the sticking point for me. If that can be improved upon, then the place would truly be an awesome venue imo. I just think it needs a major revamp. Was great earlier on, but with the increase in a range of edm bookings at ruby, the competition is stiffer.
