Ever use a sample before that you didn't make?

That's not what the genre is "about", that's probably the part of the statement they're getting worked up about.

Myon & Shane 54 have on the bassline in the track: Andy Moor feat. Carrie Skipper - So Much More (Myon & Shane 54 Remix)

Now Open Sylenth1, Preset 088 BS Italo, Press and hold B2 or B1.

wait do you mean synth loops that have been rendered to wave/aiff, or synth loops within synths?

Is it not the end product that counts? I judge a track based on the entire track when it's finished, not on how exactly it was made.

WAV synth loops. I've used some of these in songs, though not recently, and never as a main part of a song. Sometimes a bass or synth loop fills the gaps in a mix beautifully.

yeah well thats a good point isn't it.

A lot of people get high and mighty because they don't use loops. But then go and use a preset straight from a synth that has a sequence built in. So whats the difference there??

Well... to be fair, its pretty hard to recognise those samples they used. If I sampled a sine wave from a track, granularised it, and used it for the basis of some additive synthesis, have I really "stolen" anything? IMO, not really.

I've been known to granularise some material and use it for pads before.

I was actually the one who posted the first video on here. So yes I am aware of how much they sample. But I personally don't think you'd have been able to pick where most of those samples came from. I doubt I'd be able to.

Indeed, it is an art form in itself, even though its sampling other work.

Absolutely, but surely you also agree that originality counts for something (counts for a lot IMO).

This is why I don't shy away from presets but do tend to eschew loops, or at least the abundant use of them. When you use a preset, you're not doing "engineering" - I'm fine with that - but when you rely exclusively on loops, you're not really composing either, the work of art you produce is more like a sample collage than an original track.

To each his own, though. Whatever pays the bills, right?
