There is also another way to look at it -- the 'like' button can also be used as a sort of 'mini-share' in that you get the 1-line-post on one's fb profile stating they 'like' the content at that link. You, of course, would still have the full-fledged 'share' feature when wanting to draw attention to some post/thread you find informative/useful.
Although, some argue that if the content is really worth it then the 'share' button is all you need.
