Do you have the ASIO drivers selected in the setup or WDM or something? make SURE its ASIO or you're not going to get far. upload us a screenshot of your settings too.

YOu have a quad core CPU, I'd be very surprised if its genuine CPU spikes your getting. Upload us a screenshot of your project from arrangement view and we'll see how dense the edits are, but I think it'll be a problem in your setup.

Have you been noticing lags with other activities other than music production?

I still suspect that the machine doesn't like something that's being automated. Despite being a quad core it's not a particularly fast CPU :-

When you say that you're automating reverbs, what parameters are you automating? How many reverbs are you using, and which ones in particular?

Do you have any mastering plugs on any of the busses or masters like Ozone, Elephant, Vintage Warmer, Tracks etc. All these can use a LOT of CPU power especially in look ahead mode.

As an example, play a track and then change the room size on a reverb. Chances are you'll see some spiking and/or some glitching.

I think we really need an idea of just what you have playing when your cpu starts to max out and stutter.

Give an example of how many synths, FX, reverbs, audio etc etc is going on at one time. Be specific.

There could be something playing up which is causing the problems or maybe despite having a pretty decent system, your projects are just too intense for it.

The problem has been solved successfully - initial post updated

So it was a CPU load with all the stuff you had going on in your computer - yeah usually new PC will fix this problem - congrats.
