I was at a party about a week ago and someone there put on Johnny Cash and started blabbering about him for hours. We put on some DJ Shadow and were chilling and he was still going on about Hurt and how emotional it was, talking over anyone who tried to say anything.

So yeah. Fuck country music.
Funny that, most people I've met that listen to country music are very ignorant to other forms of music. Much like you've described.
There's not much in the way of country music that inspires me much, although I do like some bluesgrass in small doses once in a while.

Hurt was okay but definitely not the pinnacle of Cash's portfolio. If anything, it's Cash's nod to Trent Reznor but not something I would show if I were a Cash fanboy. I hate drunken blow-hards like that.
EDIT: If I were speaking to Cash's extensive work this would be a song I'd want to show.

Well, this guy is actually quite open minded about music. I'm going to see Trentemoller with him later this year. He was just very drunk and obsessed with the bloody song, which made me instantly hate it.
