i guess it all comes down to equing when you layer a bass sound eh?

i guess the main objective it to make it more hard hitting?

For me it's not always about being hard hitting. Sometimes the combination of two different sounds can produce a third, almost entirely different timbre. You can also layer the same bass note an octave higher on a different channel and EQ it differently.

Many experimentation to make!

thanks for the replies guys..i guess the song right now that would really describe the sound i was going for would be the bassline kicks in at the one minute mark.
