What I meant by that is some second, and third party software (legit software) sometimes doesn't play nice with a computer. For example when Mac released Safari for Windows, my pc's didn't like it at all. Of course, it was the first version, and maybe the newer versions are better.
That's weird you're still having the performance issue even after all that. I wonder if your copy of Rekorbox is bad.

Uninstall it mate. After you find out if you'll have to go through your 4,500 strong collection that is.
See if things improve. Confirms the program as the cause.

OK there should be no need to do a fresh OSX install - I don't think the OS is the problem here and OSX isn't like windows in this respect. I think it has to do with the way rekordbox interacts with the mac....
.....here's some stuff to try:
1, make sure time machine is disabled (could be slowing it down).
2, It could be you have additional user accounts on your machine causing the problem; open your finder and go to your drive's root folder (the very top):
/yourdrivename
See if a file "PGM1" exists there. If so, delete it and try loading Rekordbox again.
3, it could be a corrupted music database (i've included the other OS's in case anyone else has this problem).
To swap out yourdatabases, simply go to the database location (dependent on OS):
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Pioneer\rekordbox
Find the datafile.edb and rename it to datafile.edb.old, then find the datafile.backup.edb and rename it to datafile.edb, then load Rekordbox and see if that works with the trouble track.
Finally, here is the link of the how to migrate or backup your rekordbox:
Try these any let us know if you make any progress.....

Hey everyone. I wasn't running time machine, nor did I have multiple users.
Regardless my Mac was so f'ing slow I had to format. I've since reinstalled and no issues yet.
Extremely weird... I've been an OS X user for 6+ years now and never experienced this (and I'm usually pretty good at noticing differences/pinpointing this stuff out).

Anyway, glad no one else was experiencing this!

6 years with one forced format. That's pretty impressive.
