sounding better bro, i wouldnt be afraid to increase the compressor sidechain ratio and threshold.

edit, i dont want to give you wrong advice, just finish the track up. eventually if you want to be a good producer, you're gonna have to make these realizations by yourself, but i realize how much it helps to bounce off of people.

I mean on the most fundamental level possible I guess yeh you can see theres a "groove", but it really depends on how low you set your bar and how exactly you define a groove in the first place.

But from first glance the track sounded weak, and from second glance it sounded exactly the same.. just weak.

I'll be completely honest I don't even really see a strong point in the mix. The kick is weak, the bass is even weaker, and the lead not only sounds harsh and brittle, but the progression of the lead itself is nothing captivating in the least. It almost sounds like you tried to get some fancy sweeping effect with it, and imho its just taking that much more away from it.

You could theoretically get an effect like that to sound good, but that would be if the other 90% of the track had something to offer.

I'm not sure what "tweaks" you keep making to the bass but it sounds like a simple and tiny little preset bass. It also does not even seem to sit properly with the kick.
This is the kind of track you should have scrapped from your first submission. I think people were trying to be kind by giving you pointers, but if this is being played at a wedding people absolutely should have known better and told you to junk it.

I'm not trying to sound cocky, but the level of "quality" could be reached in about 5 mins.
It would be as simple as this:
Open any kick, put kick in sampler.
Open any synth, go to any preset that sounds within 100miles of the sound I want, and add bass.
Then add a noisey, harsh lead and make it sweep a bit.

How long did this track take you in total? I just don't understand how you wound up with that.
But let me try to be more encouraging.

I honestly think even if the wedding was an hour from now, that you could trash that track and wind up with something much better sounding in only that short amount of time.
Where are you getting your kicks from? And what are you doing to them?
Try and get a thumpier sounding kick, that specific kick would not even distract my attention for a half a second if I was sampling through a pack. I'm not sure why you stuck with it, unless every other kick in that pack just sounds that bad.

I mean people get fancy with their kicks and do all sorts of stuff to make them club ready, but I can open almost any kick from my VEC pack, throw it in w/out a single effect and still have it sound better. It almost seems like you might be taking good sounds and trashing them and not even realizing it.

Can you submit a sample of the kick w/out any fx over it? I'd like to take a look at the dry sample you're working with.
As far as the bass you need to learn how to either program your own, or at minimum develop some sort of layering ability. Again, it sounds like you scrolled to the first preset you found, keyed in some simple notes, and bamm you're done. I'm just trying to understand your process better here I mean what are you actually doing to change the sound of the bass?

And are you bussing the kick/bass together? They should definitely sound a bit more cohesive together.
And last just take out that lead completely... no... don't do that, like I said start a new project.
I'm stopping here. Theres simply no need to continue working on this track. If you don't have the skills or technique yet, then you shouldn't have planned to play it at a wedding in the first place.

I'd suggest starting a new track, and submitting smaller parts at first. Like just the kick/percussion first, then have people give you pointers before you even consider adding a bass. And take it step by step in a more tutorial type fashion. Not like you're just submitting for 1 or 2 opinions, because you need much more help then that.
I'm not writing any of this to offend you, and I hope you can take it objectively, but I really think you need to just emotionally detach from this track and start a new one.
Sorry, but I think thats the only way you'll ever get a better sound then what you're working with now. Like the saying goes, "you can polish a turd but its still just a polished turd", and imo this turd doesn't even sound polished.

Life goes on, start a clean fresh project. Thats my best advise to you.

In the sampler I adjust the envelopes
I apply Compression 2-3 ratio, threshold 5-10,peak,
fast attack, mid release.

then I add a
limiter

It goes to a mono aux bas shared with the bass, side chained with the kick.

I ll have to work harder adjusting the bass sound,and re equalizing it with the kick.

I hope I come out with something good enough.

could you paste a soundcloud link to the kind of kick you are talking about. that would be really helpful!.

Mate, sack all that eq shit off the kick. And compression and the limiter. Lose it all. Don't get me wrong, people do eq certain kicks to help them fit in the mix but its not always necessary and certainly as a beginner, you'd be much better choosing a kick sample that sounds good from the off and leave it as that. Don't get bogged down in petty details trying to process a kick to sound better.

Please bear in mind that many kicks from the vengeance packs are ripped from other tracks. Therefore the kick has already been processed and is "club ready" so there should be no need for additional processing (certain exceptions apply).
