He also said that for all they care a guy that buys a single copy of windows/office for work can take it home and install it there too (they even agree to activate it on phone twice with the same license).
One thing's for sure, fucking MS won't get a dime out of me - ever.
WOOOOHOOO...that just validates my statement....thank you! one point for pat
god that was my gayest reply ever, ah well....

I have been quite heavily into the warez scene over the last couple of years, I've moved on from it now though. I had a working copy of XP installed on my machine looong before anybody had come up with the name "XP" it was still called Windows Whistler back then... and I was using the full retail version for probably 3-4 months before XP was officially released. Therefore my penis is much larger than yours
You guys are right in essence though, Microsoft doesn't generally care that we are all using stolen copies of Windows (I mean who here actually went to the store and bought a copy for home use??). Yes, a lot of pirating does add up, but there is more money to be made from big companies than from individual users.

I believe my brother downloaded XP pro 3 months before it went to the stores.
I rather like it especially for home networking.

MAC OS RULES
I know this is gonna sound a bit out of places but please don't start a flame war
ok well anyhow I think it's in humans nature to naturally and excesively complain all the time ...
The worst part is NONE and I mean literally NONE of you will ever switch oses!
I personnaly am a mac user
and pc user
I started with pc and I probably will never go mac 100% due to the fact I can't get warez for mac it's like to hard to find ...
well anyhow ..... I had the rcp release of XP
I've never used it
my fav windows os ever was windows 2000
and don't forget mac os was the first!
windows 3.11 > mac clone
windows 95 > mac clone
windows XP > Mac Os X clone ( what a coincidence everything looks so similar and it comes out at the same time )
more power to you!
why don't we all go and buy copies of linux .... or BeOS which just went out of business
anyway
keep on keeping on !

muhuahaha... if i only had a penis, mine would be much larger, since i could install longhorn (windows UX) right now on this work computer im typing from and none of you will prolly even see if for 2 years!

well, i just went to a windows UX team meeting at work a few weeks ago.. bill gates was the guest speaker. he talked for awhile about how they DO NOT like piracy, and thats one of their largest concerns right now. again, i believe that the new service pack contains stuff which lets them track if you are using a pirated win xp or not. so i dunno, either bill gates was lying, or you are wrong.

i just did yo. went to the company store and bought a LEGIT xp pro version for $30 (US). and im not crying about that ENTIRE 30 dollars i had to spend to get a legal, licensed copy that i can get support and warranty on. shrug.

Bill Gates is the richest man in the world. The relative cost of the software he sells is not much. Just the price of materials, he pays off the programmers and other staff very easily with miniscule sales of his product. Windows products have outrageous prices, and most money comes from business buying hundreds of licenses from microsoft but only one software package. This is how he makes all his money. He must be doing something right if he is the richest man in the world, and probably just doesn't care about hackers because that's usally just people using it for personal home use.

outrageous prices? why is it outrageuos? think about what u get for the 300 bucks...... just because you are so "l33t" and can get it for free does not mean it is worth 0$
its worth every penny and if i wasnt "l33t" i would probably also pay for it :P
just because a company is rich does not mean they arent allowed to make more money!

Before you outright say a company sucks stop for a minute and think about what they've done for computing as a whole and how they've managed to allow so many components to interact with each other....
People will always bitch because they have nothing else better to do, sure there are flaws, but what exactly does Windows prevent you from doing that you really want to do? (And don't you uber-geeks start getting Linux on my ass because I'm talking about the vast populace and not the niche geek community)

You do know linux is free, and that you can download from www.linuxiso.org?
Or you can buy it for the low low price of the cd cost and shipment.
The only reason that i don't use mandrake anymore is that there're are no good games for linux, and i don't want to close linux and start XP every time i feel like playing a game.
And you can prays Windows all you want, but you can't ignore the fact that they're overpriced and unstabel as hell.
Agreed that XP and 2000 are stable but they're now where near linux or unix.
