I'm also rather suspicious of this casual gamer appeal companies have embraced as of late. I'm not refuting that's where the market is tending or that companies are approaching it, especially with the massive influx of phones capable of gaming and things like Farmville, etc. It just doesn't make sense that a tried-and-true customer base that could easily purchase 15 new games each year or subscribe to an MMO for 5 years straight is being outbid for content by soccer moms inclined to buy shit like Kinect and play it twice a year. I'm obviously generalizing, it just seems that the large trend of gaming these days is shifting toward intra-corporate advertising by cornering the actual mechanism of interaction, and quasi-subscription titles in the form of DLC circuits that provide 1/50th of the content of the original release for 1/5th of the price. It's no fucking wonder theft is becoming the new competence.

it happend to music, and movies...why wouldn't it happen to games.
'good games' are going to be like black and white french movies done by art students in years to come.

Well that's true. Film's equivalent trend to motion control is probably this recent slew of 3D movies. They're fun, don't get me wrong, but do they take any more than video-game-like shots and perspectives in slow motion to really bring forth an effect? Is this competetive with rich, large viewpoints -or their antithesis- lauded in classic and contemporary film? Hmmm...
I'm going to go with no, but I am not closed to the idea that somebody can do something great with 3D. It just hasn't happened yet.

What I like about nintendo is that they keep releasing games which are fun to play off the internet, and i'm not talking about Wii (sports, fit, family fag fest game title) either.
I think that's a major mark of true gameplay these days. It reminds me of gaming 20 years ago. Nowadays it seems like too many xbox, ps3, and pc games are only fun if you're playing online. Hell, some games you can't even PLAY unless you have an online account(steam). The only good offerings are third-party DLC games like Braid and Limbo.
Like carmack said...it's not really about the control interface, and ms/sony still don't seem to realize why nintendo kills them in sales.
