Great mix Nik Loved the tracks, and your mixing is always wicked. Will definitely be on my frequent list for a while to come!

Eh... this is nice and pleasant. The mixing is as smooth as you like, and you always have a knack for effortless undulating flow between tracks. And the tracks are mostly very nice.

With that said, I have to say there's nothing remotely special or stand-out about this set. Almost every artist here is really, really obvious and it doesn't feel like any crate-digging went into the tracklist. Most of these tracks are pretty old, and represent that mid-00s breaks sound that has been totally explored by now. As pozz suggested, there's little in the way of variety: nothing that's harder, funkier or more interestingly produced than the status quo.

I understand that it's hardly the aim of this set to do something unique or ground-breaking, but limited ambitions provide limited results. This is good for what it is.

Perhaps Jack is right when he says that the mix doesn't really cover any new territory... lots of the stuff in it were really big songs IIRC during the height of the progbreaks movement... but good music and tight mixing definitely triumph over originality. And that's exactly what this set features. Always loved Scrambler-Free, one of my first mixes I ever made featured the original version of that, mixed into Bedrock-Forge

Well, it isn't a choice between them. The more of those things a mix has, the better.

It depends on who is listening to the mix, as always. Someone who's never heard prog breaks before will find it fresh. Someone who hasn't heard prog breaks since 2004 will probably think it's a nice return to the style. Someone like me, who's constantly digging through this style, will find it a bit over-familiar.

I actually did a fair bit of crate digging, but in the end I chose to leave out most of what I bought since almost all of the newer stuff was so overcompressed the tracks just distorted all the way through. The audiophile in me just wouldn't let me do it.

So, I travelled backwards, just like I said in the OP.

I think I'm gonna start searching for myself as well, then I will be able to create a proper mix.
