Though this music isn't much to anyone, anymore, I think it can be a little more than stealing other's melodies and going the easiest possible way..

Good artists copy, great artists steal. I wrote that.

it was a Pablo Picasso quote you nitwit. And I didn't study classical music my entire life. And the best classical composers stole all the time and were quite vocal and aware of it.

Don't steal, learn the theory, or don't, just don't take the most obvious route. Though I reckon it's all about your ethics.

On the other hand, if you want to make another uplifting orchestra trancer with an obvious chord progression, then go ahead. I think no-one will ever know you "stole" something from someone, even if it was a copy of Andy Blueman's latest "masterpiece". There's a good chance someone will even sign your track and maybe another 5 people will download it from Beatport. Have some integrity.

the parts i stole from mega man 2 - flash man theme is beyond recognition so i doubt anyone would find out. maybe if I showed you the parts soloed in both the megaman midi and in my track people could hear it. i even transposed it down a few notes, and moved it forward 1/16th just to hide it even more. not sure i wanna say what track it is though now that it is open that i did that lol.

Come oooon.. Let me take a listen. I've never heard anything you did.

I know it's just my childish to you like morals bitching here about the stealing part, so I won't "argue" more I don't do it personally.

BUT, I would very much like to do remakes of video game music! So the real work was done more on the technical / mixing side of things and I wouldn't have to worry about the theoretical aspects for once!

Has anyone played Skyroads? Mm..

nothing wrong in stealing imo, if u manage to upgrade the original material - fuck its only music - it was never meant to be about money. its a shame when its downgraded though (which is what happends in most cases).

I can agree.

Yes I can understand the "stealing" when it's not too obvious or blatant of course.

This track of yours sounds cool.

i've stolen music. A particular cue required an early classical string quartet ala Haydn setting. I was given the task to write it but since my head is a giant jukebox, I already knew the piece I was going to use. So I just called the head orchestrator with the mp3 recording in his email. Then he showed a mocked version from a midi to the composer, music director and director 30 minutes later and they were quite happy. The best part is that as an orchestrator, you get paid by the page which has at the max 4 bars so I got paid for just thinking of a tune I could basically scan the published score and make erase any indication that it was from a certain edition. I thought that was quite clever. Illegal but clever. Everyone thought it was funny but since they knew the entire story, they felt it only fair that I buy the team lattes for one week due to my corner cutting. The funny part is that the composer or director never asked where it came from. I suppose that was thin ice i was walking on but it had resulted in a pretty long running inside joke. The conductor did notice however but at that point, nobody cared about it as they were just so stressed about other things. Iv'e also found that they tend to like these sort of clever underhanded manoeuvres. Sort of like when you are beaten at go fish and you say "Well played" .
