Well, depending on where you live, downloading from a p2p can still get you arrested and/or fined. Question is, is it a risk you're willing to take?

Coming from the eyes of someone who doesn't get paid professionally for their music, I would personally be 100% cool with your friend doing it, but I'm not a paid artist with commercially available music. I guess I would have to become a well paid artist, and experience the kinds of "profit loss" they blame piracy for, first hand...before I could make a final judgment on "extended previewing".
