I agree with kit overall. First, as discussed in MrJBJ's thread, I think the whole "sounds analogue" thing has really gone overboard. Second, "sounds analogue" means different things to different people, and to different synths, including analogue synths, because they don't all sound exactly the same. Third, I don't think that emulating analogue is the Virus' strength anyway, but Access is smart enough to know that sounding analogue is the "in" thing these days, so, like most synth developers, they're just putting a marketing BS spin on its features wherever possible knowing that, despite the analogue/digital debates, "sounding analogue" sells synths. And, if you tell people that it has features to "sound analogue", a good chunk of them will believe it. Bottom line for me is, who cares? I didn't buy it to sound analogue, I bought it to make music and invent sounds. And every Virus I've ever owned has done that very well for me.

To be honest, I rarely pushed my Polar TI1 to its limits and I also rarely (if ever) push my TI2 to its limits, so I couldn't really give you a comparison. Because my songs typically focus on vocals, I probably tend to work with sparser arrangements/fewer instruments than most EDM producers would, so the processing power and polyphony has never been an issue for me. But, I will say that I know I've ran 5 or 6 parts simultaneously, (e.g., some layered basses and pads) in my TI2, and never noticed any issues. Maybe someone else here has owned both and done a more proper comparison?

Darkstar Edition looks tasty.. |
Well if I disagree with you I must be full of shit right?
Because your comments about the new bit of paint splashed over the old synth are SOOOOO much more incisive. When did you get so much sand in your vag subtle?

A Moog and a juno for example behave differently how the envelopes affect the filters and the amplifier. With the mod matrix, you can adjust that if you're creative enough. |
They certainly might have differently shaped envelopes, but that has nothing to do with how they essentially effect the actual filter or volume itself. And nothing to do with the mod matrix! The mod matrix is just for routing sources to destinations. In a moog or juno, the filter and amp envelopes are hard wired to their destinations, so how could the mod matrix help you get more "analogue" results?? Maybe they're talking about routing an LFO to the pitch, in order to emulate analogue drift, but I'm pretty sure you can already do that on a virus.
So once again, I'm completely confused as to how this new mod matrix upgrade adds any "analogue" to the equation at all.

I'm sure that there are some people who will use the new mod sources to try to coax more "analogue feeling" out of the Virus. But my guess is that most people will use the new mod sources to do just the opposite and find new ways to f### up the sound in ways that vintage or modern analogue synths simply can't because they don't have nearly as many mod sources/destinations or waveforms available to them. That's one big advantage of VAs. |
See, this is what I mean, they should have said that the new mod matrix will allow you to create new futuristic alien sound to fuck and distort people's brains. Because thats what those big old modulars could do, and thats the ultimate goal of any mod matrix IMO; to emulate a full on modular synth. But instead they acted as though it would just "add more analoguez".

Good thing it sounds better than my ITB plugins, because the workflow still sounds like shite
