From the sounds of their track record, they don't seem to do a very good job of discouraging it, either. And while the idiots doing the fighting should take full responsibility for their actions, every fire needs fuel, and the bar is providing it. So, until there's some way you can impart to alcohol-loving, overindulging patrons the necessity of controlling their intake while in public, it only makes sense that the bar shoulder some of the weight for what takes place in their establishment.

And while your account of AGCO goings-on may be at least somewhat accurate, your biases are most certainly showing. I've been witness to some pretty obnoxious behaviour in bars and nightclubs and many times over have also watched supposedly professional bar staff serving people well past the point of intoxication. As it's said, "there's three sides to every story - your side, my side, and the side of the truth".

Other than where the bouncer interfered with the cop, i dont see a problem here. How does a bar discourage it? So people are partying and having a lot of fun (to the AGCO thats revving them up). There is a recent case here that i know about where the AGCO pretty much forced a bar to stop playing top40 and play more adult friendly music as they felt that lady gaga was making people rowdy. Im not even joking. I heard it straight from the manager themself!!

And i dont buy that by selling alcohol you are promoting fighting. No. By selling alcohol you are selling alcohol. If you have a fight occur it should be dealt with but thats not the bar owners fault no matter how much is served. (yeah yeah i know what the law says but im talking practical common sense here)

My description of the AGCO is perfectly accurate. From personal experience to hearing first hand accounts from multiple owners and managers i can tell you that this is exactly how things run down there. Its fucking sad to put it bluntly.

there's already a condo between Brant house and Footwork
that whole area has at least another building or 2

How to get rid of a nightclub in toronto to put up a condo:

Step 1: Have the AGCO show up every night. Have the AGCO charge the club frivolously and repeatedly.

Step 2: Have cops show up in uniform regularly and walk through the club. Also have said cops stand outside asking patrons if they are drunk and/or put a spot check next to the club often

Step 3: Suspend licence of the club. Even though most likely 2/3 of the frivolous charges have been thrown out, its a numbers game. So the 1/3 most of which are probably bogus, get to stick and you are closed for 45 days (and a lot of people are laid off)

Step 4: If this doesnt work, set up a sting. Do an investigation and discover that yes, some patrons probably do have drugs

Step 5: Raid the club at peak time.

Step 5a: If anything is found like drugs hold a press conference

Step 5b: If nothing much is found, put a small item on the police blotter and hope its not a slow newsday.

Step 6: Somehow rumours float around that there was a stabbing or shooting, thus justifying the raid even when nothing of that nature occurred.

If the place isnt shut down by now, their reputation is now at least sullied enough that its only a matter of time.

And then VOILA! Condo time!

Rinse and Repeat....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but FW is already part of a commercial building no? I think Footy's not going to be affected by any condo buildings in/ around them..

A small area of the core saturated with cookie-cutter venues all vying for the same, fickle, bottle-service weaned crowd + long-encroaching downtown real estate interests...

You're a regular Nostradamus!

At this point, it's a dead horse. It will be interesting to see which direction things head in now. At least when the 80s look-and-sound same bar scene folded in on itself there was a wealth of viable warehouse space in the core.

I know that. But this new one is RIGHT outside Footwork's door in the alley way where the noise spills out. The noise complaints and calls to police will probably be 3x. And this new condo looks like it will be huge.

the diff is that the city accommodated new clubs. Now there are too many laws preventing it on all levels. It will not regenerate unless those laws change

Where there's a will there's a way and where there's demand there will be supply. They can kill the clubs but there will just be a new way and place to get your fix. Warehouses -> Clubs -> ....where next?
