Go give blood then - they give you a couple of hundred for a pint.

Better than selling you mac mini as at least within a couple of hours you've reproduced the blood again, unlike the mac mini.

That's odd last night I was solicited over the phone to give blood. Weird seeing that show up here too maybe I ought to go do that. I have an interview lined up on Tuesday. I'm just really tired of working at 9-5 jobs 40 hours a week that have nothing to do with what I'm actually interested in or even what I'm good at. Being a sensitive artist and all it gets depressing to the point where I can no longer stomach it, start to lose it and snap at my coworkers and quit after 6 months. My resume is getting spotty and my will to carry on in with it is gone. It's not a life worth living. That's not why I'm here.

I hear you but you just have to keep faith - what I've found is that unless you are getting paid to make music (which is rare with EDM) it's best to do a job that has something to do with the industry. That said, be careful with that as I've been burned: I finished audio engineering school and got a job at a large audio retailer. It was great and taught me so much about kit, but the last thing I wanted to do when I got home was sit in front of my own kit and use it.

Fast forward about 10 years to finally working in a pro studio as a assistant mix engineer, doing 80-100 hour work weeks quite often and you realise that the past thing you want to do (or your significant other wants you to do) is sit in front of another sequencer.

My advice is, if you can't get paid doing excactly what you want, then to get in to a job related to your passion, that teaches you another part of that careers skillset - so for instance, get a job in music licenceing or A&R or Music PR or Music Business Management. That way, your art and passion for it doesn't become a transaction and you're still gagging to get playing on your kit when you get home.

Also, get a job that pays decently - it sounds stupid but it's so much easier to manager your passion in your spare time with a job that maybe not your chosen art as such but pays all your bills than working in your passion and having to give blood to put food on the table.

I've got mates who worked at labels because it was their passion, getting paid fuck all and it killed their enthusiasm for the music over time.

In the UK, no, as it's a donation thing, but over here in the USA, yes. I heard of some people doing it on a weekly basis to help support themselves.

Dollars? Or cents?

Blood donations are just that, donations. If you give platelets, some centers will give you a few bucks, more likely a few gift cards to some of their sponsoring companies or a running credit you can cash for other stuff. Plasma's where the good stuff is at but most places give you about $20 per donation, not $100. that's absurd. Every single person in america would be donating every other day if that was the case.

If you're not a pussy and you really want to make money bone marrow donations are the way to go, if you don't mind literally getting stabbed repeatedly with a 1/4th inch thick needle into your bones. I've heard some places will give you about $100-400 for it.

$200 is in fairness the highest I've ever heard it going for but most places, especially in heavily populated wealthy cities will pay more, especially if you have a rare blood group. A family member of mine has a blood type that is 1/500 and even in the UK, where blood donations are free they offer her money to donate, as there are so little doners.

Student facilities pay fuck all as they know everyone is starving and can give $20 for a pint, but the large private facilities or clinics will give more, especially for plasma or rare types.

I remember her being worried at one point because some guy with that blood type got in to a bad accident and somehow they used 400 pints of that blood during the operation to save him him which was basically that hospital's entire quota.

The FDA actually ban payments of more than $25 for a pint but it cost's facilties way more to buy it from blood banks so some places are prepared to pay.

The other option is your Jizz, but since that law passed about giving out your details once the child turns 21, those donations have rapidly declined.

Ladies can make SERIOUS money donating eggs, especially if you have a good academic or physical record - some Ivy league attendees are getting as much as $50,000 for their eggs.
