What are some ways that dj, producers, and related people can do better branding?

AS to why most is not sellable ? 95% of those tracks would not see the light of day if there was a certain risk in signing them but because it costs nothing to host, they figure, why not, What they don't realize is that often, too much choice is just as damaging as no choice. Ask any dj that goes on beatport and they will tell you browsing for tracks is a nightmare.

spotify or similar will be the future none the less, mp3 is dated now.

once the internet is fast enough probably but spotify won't work just because no artist in their right mind would take part in it. Saw a lecture by some music visionary about 6 years back and he said music will be like cable tv. A flat fee and all access. I think it will get there eventually but I don't see it anytime soon. I think the problem is that spotify is free. I know when me and my girlfriend have parties, we are always playing youtube videos and not music we have on our own hardrives

Basically for that model to work, you need a reasonable flat fee , and fast free wireless internet everywhere you go. I don't see the change happening for at least 5 years. Spotify works for people at home but what about all those people that use their ipods to commute or exercise or run errands.

yeah spotify is just setting the standard. bigger better companies will copy the idea and make it international and expensive and then artists will get on as most are sick of labels. cant wait... only reason i still have mp3 is for mixtapes, white labels, oldschool and Tool. even CDs are more common than mp3 for me now, i have only 8GB of mp3. maybe each of the big music companys (sony, emi etc?) will make their own platform for streaming and monthly subscription. atleast thats what they should do - or better yet agree on a common platform.

The problem is that if each label has their platform, you will need to be a member of all 4 which is not realistic. There has to be a way to make money and it can't come from interrupted listening with adds. The only way it would work would be a flat fee.

spotify premium has that. 100EUR a year; addfree and 320kbps quality. the big labels should collab for a standard platform, better than spotify, theres alot missing in spotify and the interface is pretty bad.

Haven't tried it. I don't think it works in North America

yeah thats one of their biggest problem, they dont have the capacity to support international, its only like 10 european countries or something. sony and emi should come up with something similar but better. or iTunes should come with streaming, that would work too. with ipod syncing of the whole thing (like podcast). they have the opportunity right now, before someone else takes it. its a vacuum for solutions now and the first one who takes/makes it will win the race and change the industry forever. wish i had the cash.

Let's expand the idea... (royalties will be claimed, if you succeed)

As Brad pointed out - use the projectors on the side to display funky patterns using Data Matrix UPC barcode thingies. Use one of the barcode apps and it takes you to the site where you can purchase a track or get more info or track list...

With next gen iPhones and Androids, there are plans to integrate NFC chip (for secure shopping) that you could use to allow ppl to purchase trax in proximity venue.

Pretty soon this model may be "the norm". All it takes is one smart idea to succeed and floodgates open up.
