Big wine drinker here.

I'm an hour from the heart of Virginia wine country so love to drive up to the vineyards and do tours each summer. Great scenery, pretty decent wine and very reasonably priced too!

On the whites I usually like Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Chablis, Sancerre, Pouilly-Fuissé. I like Virginian Chardonnays but not many others...

Reds I'm a bit more fussy and it depends on the food; Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Pinot Noir.

Also enjoy some good dessert wine, Trockenbeerenauslese and the like.

not too sure, i had it at this tiny bistro in Frelighsburg Quebec near the New York border. It was paired with a duck confit and saffron crab cakes. It really did not work at all, and even stand alone the wine had a metallic tinge to it. It is entirely possible that we had a bad bottle, but the people eating next to us hated it as well.

Read where the rest of the medals came from...it is all pretty much on the same scale as the Denver Wine Drinking Convention medal. Not one competition of note in there.

as general rule quality Rieslings come from Germany. I'd recommend Dr Loosen Riesling as a starting point.

I'm too low-class to like wine.

the cheaper the better. preferable cold. whatever gets me drunk without hanging over too much, shitting gray, and gives me acid reflux.

this must cost a kidney in the states but this are my favourites:



1998, such a nice year but you can't get one of this bottles for less than 200$, and it's "brewed" 50 kilometers away from my city so it's probably a luxury wine in the states, it is here indeed.

I don't like the french or italian wines, they are usually bitter or the sugar is very noticeable, no middle point, but if you like old aged wines with a wood taste this are definitely your choices.

If you want something cheap but tasty try this:



I like wine a lot but my father is a true wine lover, he drinks this one above daily and it tastes fine, bottle is less than 3$ i think so it's affordable. Trust his taste because he has a full room with wine bottles, around 2,000 bottles or even more, he says is part of my heirloom, nice one :P

been getting into wine too lately, and am also on a tight budget so I've been trying the <$15 selection.. this is a Chilean merlot that is the best of the few bottles I've tried. I usually find it for sale anywhere between $10-$13

Totally correct. I grew up in the Finger Lakes and Dr. Franks is one of my least favourite wineries. I have no idea why they win anything, because they really dont have a good selection of wine.


My personal fav is the Hosmer Semi-Dry Reisling. Its not as sweet as regular reislings, and is very smooth. It has won many awards, but personally, I could care less about awards, and care more about what I put I my mouth. Pause.


I personally ADORE Finger Lakes wines, and will drink them over most on a store shelf, all biases aside, because I would never pay money to drink bullshit simply because I am from the region. If anyone ever needs a recommendation, PM me, I am a huge wine-nut.
