I just shudder to think of what's going to happen to the countries that aren't so well prepared as Japan and America when this hits them

I cant imagine we'd be that well of, compared to the Japanese. When I was over there I was taking special notice of their earthquake infrastructure. Maybe it was because I was in Kobe, and they did a lot of rebuilding, but almost everything seemed to be built to withstand earthquakes. All the highways and train bridges/elevated railways were built to sustain a large a quake. Not at all compared to a lot of parts of Seattle or Tacoma.

I just hope that everyone on the Pacific coastlines get the evacuation warnings in time, I mean, it's nighttime that side of the world, right?

It's half-past midnight in California, so about 10:30pm in Hawaii. It's late, but not too late to warn people.

Compared to Japan, no. Compared to the rest of the world, we're pretty damn well off.

This is awful for the people of Japan but we know from experience that they are leaders at engineering against earthquake damage so hopefully it won't bring down as much as it could do in other less developed regions, Haiti being a perfect example of that. The tsunami though could be the big killer depending if and where it makes ground and how well warned those people are.

Yea, I figure the sirens will be starting pretty soon on the Washington coast. Some parts of it are very flat, very far inland and this is the sort of thing they are very worried about there.

The P.I. is reporting currently that there is no warning for the West Coast.
