If you read my post you would notice the words "Lets just say for example" .... Its an arbitary number. There is a Doubling time of the usage of oil, but the specific number is not important for explaining the law and general concept.

BTW, just incase you didnt catch on- there is no jar and no pennies. They are ALL examples, moron.

I think your examples are far too fast. I can easily say, "for example, if the global population doubles oil use every 30 seconds, then one minute we can have enough oil for the world 3 times over, but in 5 minutes we'd be completely depleted"

didn't read the link you posted, but it looks like it's saying that we're doubling use every TEN years. and we're also finding other sources for energy, in the meantime.

Does nobody understand the meaning of EXAMPLE?! It's a scaled down MODEL so you can comprehend the CONCEPT more easily.

If you can't understand that then replace all the number with multiples of 10 or 100 or whatever the fuck helps you wrap your head around the simple idea. Retard.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_oil

I suggest you do the same if you're going to use oil as an example. Plus, with greater emphasis put on the utilization of alternative energy, this Peak Oil theory has been at the very least slowed down, and it doesn't even predict that the global decline will begin until 2020.

Regardless, anybody who believes there is a shred of evidence that supports some cataclysmic end of the world scenario in 2012 is a fucking moron.

I honestly think this "theory" that you're talking about is something you cooked up in your own feeble mind to try and sound smart. I'm fairly certain that every credible physicist, geologist, and every other scientist with half a brain realizes that 2012 was a completely arbitrary number which happened to coincide with the end of the Ancient Mayan calendar.

I bet you thought the world was going to end in the year 2000 too.

Torpedoes of truth. Sizzle, bye!

As the consumption of oil grows exponentially, it is the perfect example.

sorry bud, I think you're the one not getting it all. if one says "for example, if oil consumption doubled every week, then in a single month the entire oil consumption will have more than quadrupled."

...vs "for example, if oil consumption doubled every 1.5 million years, then it would take nearly 6 million years before oil consumption is quadrupled"

that makes a difference in your precious examples, no?

Notice how there are no numbers on this graph? That is because numbers are IRRELEVANT. The only thing that matters is the formula. What numbers you decide to enter into the formula does not matter.

Also you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. If something doubles every week then on the 4th week it will grow by 8x the amount of the first week.

Think before you talk. Moron.

again, if it takes 1.5 million years (for example, of course) to get from the start to end of the graph, then I could give 3 fucks about that. that graph assumes all other factors are completely constant, which is never the case in the real world.

Every graph assumes all other factors are constant. Jesus, you really are a fucking idiot arent you? I'm not responding to your retardedness anymore.

And yes, even if it does take 1.5 million years to get from one end to the other - do you notice how the curve eventually becomes a straight line? That means in a matter of seconds you can progress more than you did in millions of years.
