What does this have to do with anti-trust and monopolies? Companies acquire competition all the time, this is no different.

Totally and there are LOADS of competitors coming out, nearly every cable provider in the US will be offering mobile services (a few in CA already are). If anything a company like AT&T might get out of the service side of things in 10yrs and just be the company that manages all the towers + technology. Similar to what IBM did w/ computing in the 90s, similar to what Clear Channel did w/ TV. AT&T sets up the infrastructure and all the other 3rd party companies license to use it (boost mobile, criket etc all use AT&T's towers).

True, but they're acquiring such a large percentage of customers via the merger that it could be viewed that they're monopolizing the market which is against American law.

Being a T-Mobile subscriber, I'm not too happy about this. If my rate plan is allowed to be grand-fathered indefinitely then I'll be 'alright' with staying with AT&T-Mobile, but that's only under the circumstance that I don't notice a difference with service quality towards the negative.

If I'm forced into some sort of new plan, I'll be jumping ship to Verizon. As they're the lesser of two evils in my opinion.

I wonder if an acquisition of Sprint is a likely next step for Verizon?

I do too. Wth.. When one company through a merger/aquisition accumulates enough customers/clients to "monopolize" a current product or service, its against the law.

Plus I worked for MCI for damn near forever and went through the Sprint / MCI Worldcom merger.. Government shut that down.. I hope they do the same thing here..

It's not monopolizing because there's still competition in the market and people still have a choice as to which mobile carrier they want to use. You twat.

You do know that this happened back in 1999 correct. There are more carriers today then there were twelve years ago. Therefore the AT&T and TMobile merger isn't a monopoly.

And I'm sure you know, that as of February 14, 2005, Verizon Communications agreed to acquire MCI.

Ultimately, there's a good possibility this won't fly... too many people have a major hard-on for AT&T.

However, I bet there are quite a few politicians that went to work with a big fucker of a smile on their face today. They can smell big "contributions" in the air.

Knowing how government bends over, spreads its cheeks and moans like a good whore every time big business whips out its check book, all the while screaming quite convincingly "This is an outrage"... they'll take it like a good whore should and allow this abomination to pass.

You don't like it? Believe it or not, start with keeping tabs on which one of your elected officials votes for this shit and vote them out.

Fucking country is being FedEx'ed, priority overnight, to hell in a hand basket. Makes me sick what these scumbags, both in Washington and in Big Business are doing these days. This country is prime for revolution... if it wasn't too fucking busy watching "Jersey Shore", "American Idol" and "NCIS Wherethefuckever" to notice, while chomping down on Papa John's vomit-covered cardboard they call "pizza".
